I tried to destroy it, when i was mad once. I couldn't.
The battery is messed up ,its not even straight. The battery case doenst close very well cuz the battery is not in its original shape.
But guess what. The phone fucking works after 2 and a half years of physical abuse.

Try holding your computer keyboard on both ends and type with your thumbs reaching on the keys, that's how hassling I find it in texting on an iPhone. I still very much prefer the traditional style of texting, since I can do it very fast even without looking (e.g: behind my back).

Screen's fine for me. Plus this small thingy can fit my wallet 2 fold, unlike the iPhone which I can barely grip with my moderately large hands. :(

Remember kids, the iPhone (like all other phones) is a handheld. They all have a risk of being left behind in a public area, getting dropped in a sewer or getting it shorted in the drink. The more of a valuable a handheld is, the longer your frown becomes once you lose it, especially if you got your "good stuff loaded" handheld with a loan you haven't finished paying off yet. :)

Fuck hell, just discovered my phone is broke. I'm feeling sad now and a bit angry.. grrr fucking thing. Screen doesn't work (good enough) anymore.. just give me stripes and some blurry shit, but he worked for 1 minute normal then go it mirrored my screen and then it broke down totaly again.

I just bought this n97 mini, with those stuffs (can't find word) that you pay every month for having calls, texts... infinite texts, internet and tv, + largely enough time of calls (i needed mostly texts but well this was the best choice). After 1 year, I'll have paid less than the price of the phone "naked" in nokia store, for having the phone + those texts, calls... for 1 year ;D

Most famous mobile companies like Nokia, SE etc have their factories in China. Look behind in your cell phone to see the logo "Made in China"!
I have already bought 5 chinese mobile and using that type of chinese mobiles since 2008 and they just ROX.
No problems at all till now plus they have warranty.. Once when my charger cable had a problem they send me a new one with no extra cost at all!
Well to inform you there are many websites that selling chinese mobiles and there is a risk of fraud so you must be careful.

Fantomas, the Chinese are very capable of creating a product which has all the features, but they are terrible when it comes to designing a product which works well. I have bought a fake ipod and it worked, but it was so laggy and annoying to use that I stopped using it (not to mention it came with a 2.5mm headpone jack).
Even proper brands like HTC were awful, I know several people who had the HTC Diamond and it was the worst phone they had ever used: it was impossible to make even the simplest of calls because of the lag, weak touchscreen and poor menu setup.
My friend who has the fake iPhone forced himself to use it despite it being laggy and constantly shutting down by itself, but after a few months the phone just died completely.
The Chinese can manufacture products very well, but cannot make their own (yet) without someone else designing it for them.
But just like Korea and Japan, countries which used to make cheap and unreliable products, China can develop and shoot to the top of the market...but I don't see it happening any time soon.

TV tuner is with analog signal and it has excellent signal for all channels when you take out the small antenna that the phone has. I am more than pleased with the TV on chinese mobiles and that was the main reason i bought a chinese mobile in the first place and many friends-colleagues are asking me to borrow it for some hours so they can watch a show, a game etc.
In some areas some channels can have good signal without antenna out!

You can do all of those things with the new Motorola Defy.
But I know what you mean, phones are not phones any more, they are just another amorphous blob extension of your computer. Especially with crazy variations like phones, mid-phone-tablet size, tablet size, laptop size.
The popularisation of the mobile phone itself was a big step because it is hard to imagine how we used to organise everything before the 3rd millennium, but all these apps and add-ons mean nothing in term of practicality. I honestly don't see how purchasing a tablet or iPhone would improve my life other than being able to rub it in people's faces.

I have 142+ apps installed on my Galaxy S II and i don't see any lag

ssd in it(altrough it is used as a ram too in smartphones, not sure if galaxy S have dedicated ram too) shouldn't cause any lag, as long as
1) the space is not so full that there is empty spot for ram
2) apps are not open and consuming cpu pwoer

one s - by far the fastest(believe it or not, it comes close to one x and sometimes beats it), you need to get micro sim(just fyi, no cost or problems there, just ask your provider)
s 2 - everything one s have, and bigger, but less pixel density screen
s advance - slowest of the three, smallest screen(all three screens are still in the high end), old android 2.3, not upgadeable to 4.0 and 4.1 unlike other two, worst camera, no flash for camera, not able to record 1080p, have "only" 8gb, and 768MB ram, not 1GB like other ones, by 10% worse battery(it drains less too though).
although advance is worse its still a great phone, and you need to think do you need the more advanced features.
and dont worry about nfc, you dont have to use it if you dont want to.
and the new android is in no way a requirement, just some things are better there.

also, ppl make too much of a deal with the battery, the thing that you have to drain battery to like 20% before charging is myth, that applied only to old and outdated Ni-mh batteries, which noone uses anymore. so you can just plug it when you go to sleep and don't worry about it.
when i just bought my phone i thought the battery is way too weak, but if you reduce screen brightness a bit(it can even be auto-adjusted by light sensor), keep wifi/gps/bluetooth off when not needed, endurance almost triples.

Notification Toggle - for some phones where the wifi/bt/etc toggles is lacking at notification screen this adds them, and is very customizable

Its an ICS/JB only, plus over the time i lost all interest on it, because, even though it is faster, scrolling is much more laggy even on high end devices and it sometimes does weird stuff with the auto resize. Now i use Dolphin(+ Jetpack addon that makes it much faster, its ICS/JB only though :( ) and stock browser instead.

I love Chrome (PC), mainly because it syncs my bookmarks.
There is a ICS and JB port for the Desire, I might try it out (But we all hate lag, so might be best to keep it on GB, we'll see).
Dolphin is a good browser, but I prefer to use Opera Web Browser, kinda got hooked on it while using my crappy old phone (Cliq).
Nice phone Sedic! I like the phones with Keyboards.

Opera has cool data compression service, but it lags behind any other browser pretty much, but it all comes down to user experice obviously, so any preference is good.

Going to newer version could work, desire isn't that slow compared to some others, however ICS is known for being laggy in general, so JB would be better option.

there are better phones for the same price as S3 mini, basically you pay more just for having it with the new samsung design line (it's the same as Samsung Galaxy S Advance, just with different looks that makes it more expensive).
Sony Xperia P is another nice option for the same price, take a look at it.

Screens get dirty no matter what, so its not really an issue.
However i have noticed that while the "gorilla glass" isn't all that great and superior in scratch and crack resistance its quite more resistant than others to fingerprints as it's bit matte. i have some other scratch resistant glass on my phone and i gave up on trying to clean it long ago, just setting brightness high enough to not notice it mostly works. :L

It plays YouTube videos in HQ, but then again so did the Galaxy S3 original, it's not a big drop in quality. I am very happy with this smaller replacement, it has all the features of a Galaxy S3 with smaller hardware specs :D

it doesn't have HD screen, so no, it can't play HD. however it does play 480p videos, called HQ in youtube app, which will look somewhat HD cause that's near the native resolution.
i don't know about now, too lazy to check, but this phone had terrible value last year (i mean, it was WAY overpriced for its low-mid features because of the shared name with its bigger brother S3)

The camera was amazing, the phone was sliddy and smooth but sadly the screen is easily breakable. It got broken twice from simple and easy falls. I sold it for a good price and got myself a brand new S1 ..... and its kinda good but it has a shit battery. still a good smart phone.

after that I started using nokias (4 or 5 of them in total), when i had the 6020 i swapped it for some samsung flip phone, which was better spec'd, but didn't really like it and used the nokia instead. Nokia's been lame in the recent years though, so my current phone is Sony Ericcson Xperia ARC S, and it's about time to get a new one.

replaced my K810i coz it started to have serious problems, worn out k-board, system problems and dying battery
now i have these, unfortunetly each one got it's bright and downsides:
2 iPhones (forgot model name) - they got awful interface and terrible, complicated uploading any music or other files, also crappy camera and no possiblity to replace battery
HTC Touch Desire2 - i liked this one, but got 1 big downside that makes it useless for me; it lacks standard headphones jack
Nokia N82 - really like it's camera, but battery is so crap that it's useless for me, in addition can't be recharged via USB, needs separate cable
Nokia C5-00.2 - so far one I'm using the most. Long-lasting battery and rather good picture quallity, rechargable via USB and got headphones jack
Samsung GT S5830i - same as above, but somehow it's camera pictures quallity is bit worse, also doesn't support many audio files (only mp3 mostly, no WMA or so on)
So mostly using these 2 now:

both are pretty fine, but even if both have 5 MPX camera and in theory Samsung got even better resolution, picture quallity is blurred and crappy, compared to Nokia

I have Samsung I9100 Galaxy S II since August, 2011 and its still works good as new + Extended Battery EB-K1A2EBEG

I have droped it countless times, it has Corning Gorilla Glass almost imposible to scratch or break screen, you can even put it in your pocket together with keys and there wont be any scratch on screen
I am also surprised that its survived heavy rain multiple times

It has good picture quallity you can take pictures and/or videos of texts and read later. And it has standard headphones jack
Forgot to mention its supports almost all video formats you can watch movies on it in HQ/HD, and if you buy Samsung MHL to HDMI Adapter EIA2UHUNBE you can use your phone as DVD and watch movies on TV (1080p FULL HD and 720p MKV Videos!)

I have Samsung Galaxy SIV GT-19505 since 28th June 2013 and it is working so fine...as if it is still new. Similar information like Jurlz but I have different extended battery (7200mAH) and with it, my mobile lasts for at least ONE DAY,. (I bought the battery from eBAY for 9.50 euros) and I use my mobile nearly always in a day like navigating through internet, play the games etc.
Also it has one of the best protector screen...i dropped it likr at least 1m from the floor...no scratch at all (with NO protective case)
Imo, S4 is suitable for you, now the price of it went down from 699 euros to around 300 euros due to s5.

Not sure it would suit your criteria for battery and solidity, depending what your standards are:
I have the SE Xperia Arc S for about 2.5 years or so, I don't know how easily you can find it brand new in a shop, but 2nd hand "like new" would probably be anywhere between 100 and 150€ here.
I've dropped it quite a few times unfortunately, a few times on the asphalt while walking (so about 1m height), the screen got absolutely 0 damage, all it got was some tiny dents on the corners. Don't be fooled by the light weight and plastic of the back, which give the impression it's very fragile... well apparently not, I've never used a case.
For the battery, it's probably around the standard for smartphones of 2-3 years ago... so maybe you'll want more, idk what your standard are. I think the battery is decent, unless you use a lot features that take a lot of battery, you should be able to go for a full day without re-charging it.
The camera is good enough for text I've used it several times.

I'm starting to consider changing it, probably will in a few months depending on what's around, at the moment I have my eyes on phones such as Huawei Honor 6, Xperia Z2(a?), Galaxy S5... it'll depend mostly on the prices in a few months, maybe even in a year, I'm in no rush to change it anyway.

Samsung picture lacks sharpness, sky is way too white (while in Nokia pic it remains blue a bit) and whole photo is blurry

You let yourself confuse by automatic digital "optimization". No device (except DSRL cameras) take pictures without adding a little saturation/sharpness/whatever to it. You can see that the Nokia fucks up the pixels in some places. The Samsung seems to have fewer saturation.

You can see that the Nokia pictures have irregularities in some pixels, where the Samsung pictures have smooth transitions. I can achieve the same effect with the Samsung pictures, if I pull up the saturation and pull together the tonal values. The eye thinks the image is better/sharper/more colorful, but this goes to the expense of the quality of the pixels. Basically, you rip some of the quality of the picture away to make the overall look better. In regards to professional printing, the Samsung pictures would be a better choice.
Edit:
Also, the brightness seems to be a problem here. The camera measures the brightness from a chosen point and then adjusts the aperture and white balance to it. Some smartphones (like the iPhone) offer the ability to choose this point to make better pictures in some situations (taking a photo against a window, measuring point should be on the object in front of the window). It might be, that the Nokia just has a better measuring functionality then the Samsung (or just had luck with these test photos).

I prefer the Samsung picture, I think it could also be sharper if you take the photo again but hold the phone still. Then again, image stabilisation is something you would want from a phone camera.

both of the pictures are pretty bad tbh, if you decide to buy a new mid-range+ android you should see a big improvement.
if you really like the sharpening though, you could buy a sony phone, since they have their "bravia" engine which does exactly this on your phone screen, but doesn't do the same effect on the photo itself, where it could cause problems.
and yeah, the samsung's picture is editable to be like nokia's, but not the other way around.

Well I didn't check again what are the phones you currently have and how much they're worth, but if you don't need multiple phones maybe you'd better sell them, in order to get enough money back to buy a mid-range smartphone. Of course if they're hardly worth much anymore it's normal that you don't want to bother selling them.
If you're willing to buy a second hand phone you should certainly find one that fits your criteria within 150€ in perfect condition, probably even less, or maybe you should even ask around if you know somebody getting rid of their previous generation phone to get the newer ones, you might get a better price + you get a better source to tell you if the phone has any problem or not.

ye, now i see, even simple Google picassa let me get result close to nokia... hmm so in fact Samsung is better as can get same result, if needed to read text and more options to edit and adjust picture, also important is that Samsung got option to turn off camera sounds, thats handy if wanna take picture without making noise and disturbing

Yeah unfortunately there's not many phones like that. I only mentioned the 2 I know, I've know those for a few years, but it also depends if epoxi doesn't mind a low-end smartphone.
@Ush: well some people still don't like much exclusive touchscreen... Same for me when I bought my current phone over 2 years ago, I only did so because there was no good phone with a qwerty keyboard, even the X10 mini that had just come out wasn't good. I had a symbian phone with full qwerty + touchscreen before that, it was pretty cool (the phone in itself wasn't really good though) and back then I was hoping they'd make more and more phones like that but it didn't happen :(.
I don't know what the "blackberry style" phones are worth, if there's any good ones and if you don't mind having a phone like that epoxi, but if you don't maybe you should have a look at that. I assume you want such a phone because it's more convenient, right? and you can't get used to touchscreens?

The Xperia Pro Mini is far too small and low-end, and the Xperia Pro is just too old to justify: I might get one if I saw one really cheap but it's quite a rare phone to begin with.
I don't want to go back to Blackberry because you have to pay for their silly contract just to use internet, plus I wasn't very happy with my Blackberry which had all sorts of faults just after having it for 2 years. As for swype etc. I have tried it and it's quite impressive but I really think I can be more efficient with real keyboard keys. People say it's something you get used to, but despite having had a touch screen phone for many more years than everyone else, I still find it much too frustrating compared to a normal keyboard.

If it's in total, I'd take it since my SIM-only contract costs that much anyway, if it's on top of what you're paying now I'd avoid it.

Calculate how much the contract will cost you over a SIM-only contract over the entire period, then consider if that price is worth paying for the phone. The 10€ charge is just a distraction, sometimes these offers can just be a poor way for mobile companies to offload their unwanted phone stock (which seems likely seeing how Nokia is dead as a phone brand).

+isnt very expencive and valuable, no need to worry about getting lost or stolen
+removable case, if it gets broken, scrached etc can be replaced
+rather durable battery for my needs
+5mpx camera and it sems be good enough to take pictures of text and other helpfull stuff
+supports many audio formats, nice
+standard headphones jack

So my S3 is almost dead. Took it skiing and it got a bit wet, then i dropped it yesterday from shoulder height and the touch screen won't work. Now the entire screen is blue lmao. So unless anyone knows how to fix that...
I have 2 options atm:
- Asus Zenfone 2 ZE550ML $289 AUD
- HTC Desire 816G (Dual sim) $269 AUD
These are the best options I believe I can find on Kogan (good online tech store) (https://www.kogan.com/au/) for this price range.
