Recommend a good laptop?
« on: February 22, 2017, 08:12:05 pm »
I'm in the market for a new laptop for general purpose and some light gaming and since I know next to nothing about laptops I figured I'd ask fellow AXers for help

any kind of suggestions/recommendations within a 700€ price range would be greatly appreciated

thanks!

Not sure what range we can expect in Your country for that pricetag.

My brother recently bought medicore-performance gaming laptop.

Something from LENOVO Y700 series, if i recall well.
i5, 8GB RAM, Nvidia, rather big size, so good cooling seems like.
It was bit over these 700€, but not that much, maybe around 800€. In this case I would recommend saving a bit more and get something good enough.

Can You show some available options on Your market?

Some Asus with a i5 and a dedicated GPU is just about enough really, 6/8GB RAM is the norm too so

Yeah I guess 8GB RAM is the way to go if I intend for this laptop to last me a while

obviously in this price range I'm not going for a high-end gaming laptop, just a decent one

I need some options

No matter how big fan am i of AMD, but simple they never come close to Intel processors if we compare them. Also if you add 17.3" display there you pay much for something what barely run old 3D games and that cost 800$ ?

I would never ever suggest laptop with AMD processor...

This one is best for normal jobs, excellent for light games, normal for heavy games
You can play samp 100 fps on highest settings.
Gta 5 normal settings 40-50 fps.

This one runs circles around some other suggestions and has an SSD, which, imo, is mandatory in 2017. That and an adequate display makes it good not just for gaming, but also for general work. It also has a 16GB ram version for a few bucks more, which I would suggest to buy, if you like to multitask. For modern gaming, 8GB is getting pretty tight already.

I would never ever suggest laptop with AMD processor...
Well, you might have to in a half year or so... Ryzen. O0  But yeah, current AMD offerings are pretty darn bad.

Been waiting for Karlis' response all along tbh haha

Dell looks pretty solid, I'm intrigued by the price actually and I would definitely go for 16GB, should last me a while

The Asus one seems pretty nice too

thanks for the suggestions boys

I wouldn't dare touch an ASUS Laptop (though I own one). Gaming Laptops design of them is just plain ugly. Their support is bad either.

Intel HD alone will play GTA SA at more than 100 FPS if the FPS Limiter is turned off. 940MX is trash and not even close to a GT 740

Some people suggest Asus as good brand, but they are wrong
When you see 1 year warranty, often that means laptop is refurbished. So why paying much for something what already was with some fault?
