Microsoft only entered the console market because Sony refused to work with them, according to a former Microsoft exec.

Sony and Nintendo have a similar story if I'm not mistaken. In 1994 Nintendo has asked Sony to create a support CD for the SNES to compete SEGA MEGA CD. Finally Nintendo have decided to stop the support CD SNES and Sony has decided to release their new project as a new console that was the first playstation.
