GPU/PSU problem officer?
« on: January 05, 2013, 04:05:49 pm »
Not getting a signal from my GPU to my monitor, fan speed is at 100% at startup even though I can't see it, could that be a PSU Problem? PC boots up fine with APU graphics.

I have a Corsair builder series CX 430w PSU, It's enough power to run my APU 3670k and 7850. I tried a different GPU also and still no signal through DVI. Motherboard is a MSI A75A-G55 CrossfireX motherboard.

-try another PSU on your system
-try your VGA on another system
-check the  DVI cable /use another one if you have it.

It sounds like a VGA\motherboard problem to me.

Reset the bios.

Your PSU is good , i doubt  it has some problems.

Don't have another PSU as of yet, going to get hold of one.
Don't have another system on hand, but if two of my working video cards are having the same issue then they still work.
Brand new DVI cable which works on my motherboard port.
Resetting bios won't make a different, already did it.
Brand new motherboard too

If I remember correctly it did short once on my older system

Running 7850 on 430W is risky, there is huge chance PSU have no enough power on 12V rails and thats why doesn't even boot up with that card

Measured power consumption R7850

System in IDLE = 160W
System Wattage with GPU in FULL Stress = 256W
Difference (GPU load) = 96W
Add average IDLE wattage ~10W

Thermal Design Power      100 Watt

....

this what says calculator

 Minimum PSU Wattage:   411 W
 Recommended
 PSU Wattage: *   461W

So i would recommend you at least 500W PSU to run that video card

Ah ok, I'll save up a little bit for a good 500w. APU graphics will get me by for a little bit. Thanks m8.

Tried another power supply. Still the same problem. Looks like I got a broken motherboard, only purchased it a few days ago too. This is my second MSI FM1 motherboard that has given me problems.  Got it from Aria PC, their customer service is terrible according to reviews.
