How fun would it be to explore the entire earth with some friends on mumble haha

I've always been thinking on exploring our earth inside a game.. but how realistic is it? Nobody ever mapped the complete earth in 3D... imagine the amazone..

if it would be saved as an .dff for example definitely it would be more than 50tb, but there's already games that generate terrain from seed and/or height maps on the fly, like minecraft or Just Cause 2(32x32 km in few mb there), and therefore doesn't require ridiculous hdd space.

This engine also generates it based on terrain attitude from Google and fills it with textures. Developers are willing to create seperated climates based on real ones. So for example there won't be grass and trees on a desert lol

that isn't new, but the low amount of detail and huge sizes they are working with is new.
