Planning to upgrade my PC [Help needed]
« on: November 21, 2011, 12:03:21 pm »
So in future I'd like to upgrade my PC. It's crappy mostly due to CPU and GPU. (so whole PC sucks...)

Current specs:

OS: Windows XP Home Edition 32-bity SP3
Płyta Główna: Gigabyte Technology GO-M52L-S3P
CPU: AMD Athlon II (X2) 245 (Regor 45nm)
GPU: Nvidia GeForce 240GT 1024Mb DDR5
RAM: 3GB DDR2
HDD: Western Digital WDC 1TB
PSY: 350W

I was looking for Intels offers and for AMDs. From what I see newest AMD ones are worse than Intel's old ones. Probably it's one the reasons to pay more for Intel than buy new one from AMD but anyway I don't exclude any of mentioned above atm. From what I see Core i5 2500K is best at the moment yep? Well I know there are better ones but most products would be worth having better one core than 6x2.8.

Also what about GPU? For sure GTX cards but which one would be cheap and best? MY GT 240 has got not many problems with new games so I can't whine much atm...

All in all I'm worried about my motherboard. I have some doubts it can support new CPU. What do you think? (No LGA I think)
Basically it claims that I want not expensive and efficent upgrade over my CPU. GPU will follow later on. Still need advises tho.
If somebody can help me in making something good from this crap it would be much appreciated.

Thank you.

im not sure what is ur budget , but i'll suggest these if you got high budgets

CPU : Intel I5-2500 ( non K version if u dont intend to do overclocking in the future )
Motherboard : MSI P67A-C45 B3 ( if u not going to SLI in the future) / MSI P67A-GD65 B3 ( for SLI In future ) i recommend these since these motherboard are cheapest and high performance for me at least ;)
GPU ( if you have budgets left) : either GTX 460 / GTX 560 , if u are in low budget , stick with gts 450 / gtx 550

and you need to change your ram too since the new motherboard doesnt support old DDR2 rams....

oh yeah , and you need a new PSU as well....get this one : SILVERSTONE Strider Essential series ST50F-ES 500W since the graphic card's power requirement need at least 450w or above..

If you install AMD AM3/AM2+ CPU on AM2 motherbord, the system bus speed will downgrade from HT3.0(5200MT/s) to HT1.0(2000 MT/s) spec so seems you have not much option for that motherboad now days.

2500k cost like whole hardware what you count also for that intel you have new motherboard plus ddr3 ram memory.

Also if you install card as 460gtx or better, performance of that video card will be downgraded due old chipset on motherboard and weak processor.

If you have no at least 300 euro in pocket don't change anything on that PC,thats my advice  ;)
