During the process of evolution, the genetic mutation occurs in the embryo. This means the egg came first. What laid the egg what genetically VERY similar, but it wasn't, what we call by today's standards, a chicken. The funny thing is, this is EXACTLY what the "X-Men" are all about. These mutants are, in fact, the next evolutionary step from homo-sapien to homo-superior. The first mutant's parent was a human. If anybody should understand the chicken/egg question, it would be mutants.
