I was thinking of cancelling everyone's money so far, then everyone gets an amount of money extrapolated from their current score. Players would still earn money from races in the same way they do now.
AdrenalineX then sell items (such as wheels, body kit parts) in a /servershop, each one will be given a price relating to how exclusive the item is.
For example the Twist wheels could be targeted to the richest 10% of players, so whatever amount of money the poorest person of the richest 10% of the server has...that would be the price for the item. Prices would of course be recalculated regularly.
Once someone has bought an item they own it outright and can apply it to as many cars they like every race, until they sell it.
If they want, at a later date, players can then sell their owned objects with /sellitem [item name] [amount] and their item would be added to a list /usedshop where other players can buy the item (we could also set fees taken by the server for selling, as a percentage of the sale price or something).
This way we have a steady flow of money both into and out from players' pockets which is based on their performance, giving them a chance to show off how well they play, or how shrewdly they can buy and sell items.

I like the idea, and by knowing player's score we can calculate the money he had earned in the past quite precisely (ignoring duels ofc).
current prize for finishing race is score_earned * 10 + 300 - position, so it would be easy setting the money to approximately right level.
and properties/buildings isn't bad idea but it kind of doesn't fit in racing server and more importantly is very long to develop on our part.

^This. Properties are great but no one would ever see or use them because most players spend their time racing.
Wheels, car colours, body-kits and /myitems are useful because you see other racers using them and showing them off.

I would leave /duel in...makes it more exciting. 8)

even if we control the money flow we need to make sure money is still in quite low value(i.e. everything costs in multiple tenths of thousands), because otherwise casinos will have too big effect on it.

block casinos or make them use a separate currency worth like 1/100 - 1/1000 the value of real server money

i'd see no problem blocking them but cassidy would probably kill us :L

Ohhh, I didn't realise he meant casino gambling. We could detect the casino bets and payouts and make them get divided by 1000 or something.

that doesn't mean rpg elements are forbidden, in fact rpg elements make games of most genres more applying.
