Driftmode is kind of failure right now,
I got idea to bring back driftmode, but changed, more intresting way
Make drift points being converted into bonus time, substracted from your race total time.
Every 100 drift score = -1 second from total race finishing time.
Example:
- Player 1 finished race in 2:00.000 minutes with 1000 drift score
- Player 2 finished race in 2:15.000 minutes with 2700 drift score
Race results:
- Player 1 [race finish time] -[his driftscore bonus time] = 1:50.000 minute
- Player 2 [race finish time] -[his driftscore bonus time] = 1:48.000 minute
Player 2 won with result 1:48.000, while player 1 had 1:50.000
This way driftmode would be intresting and 'force' ppl to passing cps/race in best possible time (without looping and donuts at end of race)

really it doesn't help much if fc can do 80k, he would have -4mins anyway, formula needs to be rebalanced somehow.

no, that completely defeats the racing/competition purpose - be better than others - win.
maybe logarithmic function, but i don't think that's good either, or we will get "i almost beat you" when in fact difference were big.
perhaps adding up scores of different attributes, not multiplying them so no exponential growth is made is better?

well, what i've realized from the last races, people were racing to the end of the race, making donuts of drift to get high points.
couldn't we set a maximum time in betwen the checkpoints? like from the 1st to 2nd can be done in 2-3-4 seconds? so that, the player can't do donuts at the finish or in the middle of the race, because he will not make it to the next cp in the requested time so he will lose the race

that might work, ppl will still abuse it by pushing the time as far as they can in zigzags though

i still think that putting a limit of seconds betwen checkpoints will work.

that is exactly how drift mode is working right now... timelimit and until its gone you can make donuts.
one thing that might help is using the backtracking detection from tourney, but afaik donuts would still be possible.
