i bet 9 is correct

6/2(1+2)

1st do (1+2) so is 3

then
6/2*3
6/2=3 and 3*3 = 9

1st one, once () is done, its divisions order.
seems like they have different settings tho.

1 is correct

calculators should count it like this: (http://i.imgur.com/XIhXl.png) = 1

the calculators in the first picture is wrong

But if you think 6/2 as a fraction and then that fraction x (2+1), the result would be 9

That's how i see it...
6/2(1+2)=
6/2= 3
3(1+2)= 3+6 = 9 ...

nah x equals to (x)/(y), not x/y, therefore this cant be converted.
       y
and calculators don't do them like that, they do it strongly sequential, meaning it will never put () if its not specified/needed.

don't forget that if priorities are equal(which is the case with division and mul), there's mathematical law to take leftmost expression first.

1 is correct

It is definitely 1! Dont think its 9, that is just a lie!

Other example:

2(1+2) = 2x1 = 2 , + 2x2 = 4 , 4 + 2 = 6 --> 6:6 = 1 !

2(1+2) = 2 x 3 = 6 --> 6:6 = 1 !

youre forgetting that 2(1+2) is the same as 2*(1+3) the lack of * doesn't change any of the orders.

Post by: MadMax on August 09, 2012, 12:33:10 pm
2(1+2) = 2x1 = 2 , + 2x2 = 4

w00t??
6/2(1+2)=9!
1st you do in brackets
(1+2)=3
then 2(1+2) = 2*3
6/2*3
6/2=3
3*3=9

damn maths! fuck you!
Title: Re: Which one is correct?
Post by: [FSR]adan on August 09, 2012, 01:36:42 pm
Other example:

2(1+2) = 2x1 = 2 , + 2x2 = 4 , 4 + 2 = 6 --> 6:6 = 1 !

2(1+2) = 2 x 3 = 6 --> 6:6 = 1 !
you cannot multiply like that, you must consider 6/2 (=3) as single number (e.g. 6/2=9/3=12/4=3)
6/2(2+1)=3(2+1)=6+3 or 3*3=9
Title: Re: Which one is correct?
Post by: [LSR]Cassidy on August 09, 2012, 01:58:53 pm
Well im just saying that you can also do it like this:

[2(1+2)] = 2x1 + 2x2 = 6 --> 6:6 = 1.

Because there is an X between 2 and (1+2) = 2 x (1+2)

Meh, i searched on the internet, and i now think its 9 too...

I doesn't matter which one is correct, just stop entering calculations into the calculator in such an ambiguous way.  :L

a = x
a + a = a + x
2a = a + x
2a - 2x = a + x - 2x
2(a - x) = a + x - 2x
2(a - x) = a - x
2 = 1

that does not say 2=1
it say a=x so when x = a we can swap one for another and don`t use them both
2(a-a)= 0 = a-a
so your unknown can be any number
Title: Re: Which one is correct?

a = x
a + a = a + x
2a = a + x
2a - 2x = a + x - 2x
2(a - x) = a + x - 2x
2(a - x) = a - x
2 = 1

problems, mathematicians? :7
division by 0 on last line

the answer to the first question is 9 because you do multiplication before division

the answer to the first question is 9 because you do multiplication before division

? but if you do multiplicacion before division then it's 1 :o

or I didn't get it :L

BIDMAS Convention - Brackets, Index, Division, Multiplication, Addition, Subtraction in that order.

Therefore the answer is 9.

6/2*(1+2)
Brackets
6/2*3
Division
3*3
Multiplication
9

/ and * are on same level

6*4/2 = 24/2 = 12 = 6*2 =12 = 4/2*6 = 6/2*4 = 1/2*6*4

same with + and -  are on same level

only () can change priority

() > ^ > * and / > + and -     priority order where ^ is exp e.g. :  2^3 = 2*2*2  or 2^(1/2) = 2^0.5 = racine square(2) or 2^(-3 ) = 1/2^3 = 1/8 = 0.125           2^(1/3) = cubic racine(2) .....

here

answer is 9 ofc

and 2(a-x) = a-x

1st : a=x => a-x =0

2(a-x) = 2*0

2*0 = 0 : brillant ^^
0=0

Quote
this is an example, in what case u need to cross the multiplication or division

2a = 3(4/15)

2a = 3(4/15)  ** then the 3 turns in 3/1

2a = 3/1 * 4/15  ** do the fractions multiplication

2a = 12/15   ** then the 2(a) or 2*a turns in a division            ***multiplication to division  = divison to multiplication

a = 12/15  / 2   ** then the 2 turns in 2/1

a =  12/15 / 2/1

a = 12/30   ** simplificated = 4/10

final result  is    a = 4/10

Checkout

2 (4/10) = 3 (4/15)

2/1 * 4/10 = 3/1 * 4/15

8/10 = 12/15  ** correct

0.8 = 0.8 ** correct

now lets go to your "simple operation"

6 / 2 (1+2) = x    ** make ur parenthesis

6 / 2 (3) = x   ** turn the parenthesis in a multiplication

6 / 2 * 3 = x   ** do the multiplication

6 / 6 = x  ** a number divided by itself is equal to one

1 = x  ** correct
