Yo, i 've got a friend who have a toshiba with cpu T2050 1.60GHz 500mo ram with XPsp3 and it's very slow( it is full of shit which start with windows and it has 2 or 3 useless tools bar on his internet navigator) .
does this Pc is allways slow with XP ?
+ i want to clean his PC to make it faster but i wonder if it's interseting to upgrade it ? ( by buying some more RAM - 1 Go ? ) or just let it as it is ? and say him to save his money for another most recent PC ?
what you think ?
thx for advices ;)

the only things you can upgrade on notebooks are:
-RAM
-Hard disk
-Optical drive (dvd)
best solution is format hd and have a clean installation of xp
1 more gb of ram will also improve perfomances.

T2050 is slowest core duo processor so you cant expect much speed of that also 512 mb is minimum for proper run Windows now days.
Since ddr2 is no longer expensive you can buy 2 kits per 1Gb 533/667/800* to run dual channel and make that machine way faster=30 euro
Would be useful if you write model of that laptop so i can search if 800* is compatible with that model
Or last solution pair another chip of 512mb but hard to believe you can find that now days=10 euro
Also as Slowdive suggested you can try with clean installation of Windows XP
