^true.

43. Although highly unreasonable, you have to add up a specific corner of every circle (add up all the top rights, top lefts etc.). The answer of this is then mirrored in the middle circle. I find 15 by adding up corners of every circle which is then mirrored. Example: TL (top left) of all circles = BR (bottom right) (add up all the TL of every circle (3+4+7+1 = 15 = x)). So TR (top right) = BL (bottom left) = 5+8+3+4 = 20 (which is true).

Yes, you and mooman are right. The answer for 43 is 15. Thank you, it looks obvious now.

Help with 43 and 44 please, what is the value of x? And, what are the steps to solve the 42? I know it is "10" but I do not know how to solve this by writing numbers on the notebook.

42: When I sell a pencil by 12 colones I get 1/5 of the cost. Find the cost.

Regards.

6 hens eat 6 kilograms of corn in 6 days which means 24 hens eat 24 kilograms of corn in 6 days and 24x4=96 kilograms of corn in 24 days. 96 kilograms of corn equals 24 dozens or 288 eggs so each kilogram of corn produces 288 eggs/96kg= 3 eggs.

Thank you mooman. I now understand this, 3 eggs is the correct answer.

If 24 hens lay 24 dozens of eggs in 24 days and 6 hens eat 6 kilograms of corn in six days. How many eggs equals a kilogram of corn?    Regards.

Si 24 gallinas ponen 24 docenas de huevos en 24 días y 6 gallinas comen 6 kilogramos de maíz en seis días. ¿Cuántos huevos es igual a un kilogramo de maíz?    Saludos cordiales.

Not really, using 60 from the start would just be the demonstration, but if you had no options and couldn't be able to make trial and error the way I did it gives you the right number. Adding the numbers you said gives you more than 60.

So if it says: Pedro boasts that it is still young. If divides his age by 12, 15, 20, or 30 the remainder is 11. What is the age of Pedro?

X=LCM of [12, 15, 20, 30] + 11
12 = 2 ^ 2 * 3
15 = 3 * 5
20 = 2 ^ 2 *5
30 = 2*2*5

We take the factors with the biggest exponent, so: 2 ^ 2 * 3 * 5 = 60 -> 60 + 11 = 71.

Why do we take the LCM and not the GCD? Because of the reminder, Wikipedia says: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greatest_common_divisor

Thank you  Agus, I have got some other doubts to solve.
Regards.

X = [least common multiple (mínimo común múltiplo en español) of 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6] +1

Prime factorization
2 = 2
3 = 3
4 = 2^2
5 = 5
6 = 3 x 2

LCM (MCM) = 5 x 3 x 2^2 = 60

X = 60 + 1
X = 61

It can also be done by 60/2, 60/3, 60/4, 60/5, 60/6 plus 1 I think
Although I do not understand what you mean with the LCM explanation. Regards

22
I don't know if there's some smart way to calculate it but the answer is 61.
mooman, explain your answer, please.

Pedro presume que es todavía joven. Si se divide su edad 2,3,4,5 o 6 el resto es 1. ¿Cuál es la edad de Pedro?   Saludos cordiales.

X = Total eggs

37 + (1/2 X + 5) = 7/6 X
42 = (7/6 - 1/2) X
42 = 2/3 X
42*3/2 = X
63 = X

Muchas gracias Agus.

(2/4X+5)+37=1/6X+X

-> Eng    A dealer sells 2/4 of a basket of eggs, less 5 eggs; If you add 37 eggs to those who remain will have 1/6 more than it had at the beginning. How many eggs did at the beginning? Regards

-> Esp   Un comerciante vende los 2/4 de un cesto de huevos, menos 5 huevos; si añade 37 huevos a los que le quedan tendrá 1/6 más de los que tenía al principio. ¿Cuántos huevos tenía al principio? Saludos cordiales.

A + B = 128 (1)

3/5 A = 1/9 B
A = 5/27 B (2)

5/27 B + B = 128
32/27 B = 128
B = 128*27/32
B = 108

Muchas gracias Agus, ya la entiendo. =D

Eng-> Between A and B they have $128. If three-fifths of part A is equivalent to a ninth of part B. How much does B have?  Regards

Esp-> Entre A y B tienen $128. Si tres quintas partes de la parte A es equivalente a un noveno de la parte B. ¿Cuánto tiene B? Saludos cordiales.

lol I know this is your homework but here you go anyway
w/t=3/5
w=3t/5
w=L+12=(t-w)+12
w=t/2+6
3t/5=t/2+6
t/10=6
t=60
w=3t/5=36
L=w-12=24
p=t/2=30

I will love some explanation. It is not my homework btw. Regards.
