Icon problem
« on: May 23, 2012, 01:14:53 pm »
Some time back my shortcut icons suddenly lost their correct icons. Any new shortcuts I make also get the same generic icon. The original icons, though, keep their correct icon, it's just when I have shortcuts. Anyone help poor Gen? :(

Awww, what a bad bug.

Do they still work? (like, run the application).

This usually happens if the directory of the app changes (very rare).  Or the drive letter changes, from C to E.

Tip:  Delete all of the START icons, right click on the working icon, click ADD TO START MENU.  Deleting them all, should make them reset and the list should start filling up as you use the applications.

They still work fine and I've never changed drives for them. Always rested on C

Weird.

Got virus software?

This is what I use, it's brilliant for the price, FREE.

On my uncles PC, it found 19 virus's.  My PC had 0.

Got AVG. The icon problem isn't only in the start menu either, it also happens when I make a shortcut on the desktop or any other folder even.

I see, quite a big problem then.  Possibly a registry error (guess).

Got AVG.
My Uncle had Norton, try malwarebytes.  It doesn't run in the background, so it won't conflict with AVG.  Just install, update and scan.

avira is quite good and free, if your fine with pressing ok on premium ads once a day then its good choice(the suggested way to turn them off doesnt really work)
