there are better phones for the same price as S3 mini, basically you pay more just for having it with the new samsung design line (it's the same as Samsung Galaxy S Advance, just with different looks that makes it more expensive).
Sony Xperia P is another nice option for the same price, take a look at it.

Can't afford to spend more than £100 really and that budget area of phones isn't too good

Massive screens get dirty faster. And it looks like washing might get into troubles. : >

Screens get dirty no matter what, so its not really an issue.
However i have noticed that while the "gorilla glass" isn't all that great and superior in scratch and crack resistance its quite more resistant than others to fingerprints as it's bit matte. i have some other scratch resistant glass on my phone and i gave up on trying to clean it long ago, just setting brightness high enough to not notice it mostly works.
