About drift mode
« on: November 27, 2010, 11:44:10 pm »
How do I go through the finish without losing -711 points etc etc? I even slow down to collect what I have and I still lose so much.

I think time penalty is a bit gay in some aspects especially at the finish

and also I don't like how people do doughnuts and not lose points

and people who rush just because they don't like the race mode. Doesn't mean they can spoil it for everyone else  >:(

How about, instead of a time penalty for the people who don't win, a point bonus for the person who does?

there is almost always time penalty. if you're a good drifter you can easily get those points back. if you don't want a time penalty you should just race to the finish, but you will ruin it for others by giving them a bigger time penalty than usually, so just try your best. drifting is supposed to be fast, with drifting on 30kmh you will get a time penalty, if youre fast enough there will be a very little penalty or no penalty. i always race to the end and drift dougnuts before last cp till 10 secs left. don't really care for penalty then because if you do proper doughnuts and keep doing them for long you will be gettings points in amounts of 200-400. that's pretty much how i set (almost) all of my drift recs.

Riot, you don't understand what i mean. no matter how much you drift clean, you will get a time penalty when you finish, i've been getting them all day, losing -700 points -1k points etc, i can't avoid it

We have discussed this before somewhere, the conclusion was that the drift mode discriminates people, everyone has their different ways of drifting, and it was kept where it is.

As long as we don't have the mechanism from NFS, there'll always be a problem with time. There you couldn't score any more points on an already passed piece of track. Plus track was a closed area. Then the time limit is of less importance and usual 90 s countdown after 1st racer finishes would do.
It's not a suggestion for a todo task. Even though I guess it's possible in SAMP. For now: maybe display the current penalty value?
It's not just what you hit. It's how you hit it.

for me, rac3r should change it...
drift is keep the car sliding all race... but fast... so the time of the race should be more important,
whats the point of people that wanna do a good score wait till 20 seconds or less to gain advantage over others players?

this should roll like this (position*scoredriftpoints)=ftw

also the creaters of this type of race should set a correct  time min. limit to finish the race and one max.! because of playes that try to do the track very fast...

(sorry for shit english hope that somebody understand me :))

a player who has finished 1st = 300 bonus points
a player who has finished 2nd = 200 bonus points
a player who has finished 3rd = 100 bonus points

MORE POINTS FOR MORE SPEED (players get same points when doesnt matter how fast is your drift)

scoring points should be stopped when is 1 minute to next race

Drift Score = km/h x time x angle

1km/h = 0.5
1sec = 1

angle

 0-10    =0
11-20   =1
21-30   =3
31-40   =4
41-50   =5
51-60   =6
61-70   =7
71-80   =8
81-90   =9
90+ fail

30km/h = 15
x
5 seconds = 5
x
31-40 angle = 4
=
300 points

if you cant make this work
can you please post this part of code with drift mode so i can see how this work
and maybe i will find solution

Can't we have a timer till next cp? So you have to hurry to get to each cp and can't do donuts and shit.

Ohhh i remembered NFS most wanted now. I loved that mode.

"Tollbooth," where a player races alone to designated checkpoints along a point-to-point route before time runs out; the more time a player has as they reach a toll booth, the more time they have to arrive at the next one.

Er, I think I may have annoyed a few people last weekend when there were quite a few drift races cause I finished first in every single one of them. But believe it or not, I'm not rushing. I'm not driving in race mode, trying to not to slide, I just do it like I did drift races in NFS games: drifting for the corners, and going fast for the straights. I did a duel drift race with Jarno and he was going all over the place, turning left and right even in the straights. Maybe the solution would be that you lose points for being slower than a certain time set for a race and gain points if you're quicker?

if total time of race = 3 min

why not put penalties from end of time ?

more than 3 min : no points

2 min 50 : 600 points penalty

2 min 40 :  500 ....

2 min 30 : 400
 ...

..
something like that : if some noobs rides to the finish fast it wont change anything

yeah that's the problem, the donuts earn so much more points that it's impossible to make a penalty that would not make legit drift useless.
the mode needs a fundamental change, but considering that we have just like 5 drift races at the moment it's not top priority.

it's still better to have partially working and rarely used mode than not having it at all imo.
just disabling it would not give any advantages except having 5 more races that would not differ from the other 4000 ones.
