maybe get back money to 0 but making it harder to earn than before. For example, 1st place = number of players racing *5 = ammount of money earned.
2nd place = number of players racing *4
3rd.... *3
4th.... *2.5
5th.... *2
6th.... *1.5
7th.... *1

And maybe later we could find some nice stuffs that players will have to pay. Like buildmode license, or the author pays a fine every time one of his tested races is deleted.

3rd place = players number * 8
4th place = players number * 7
5th place = players number * 6
6th place = players number * 5
7th place = players number * 4
8th place = players number * 3
9th place = players number * 2
10th place = players number * 1

or think sth better...
