You making pc for what?Gaming, programming, design? To be honest you waste money in all cases.Single 280 is enough for all games at this moment even you are pro gamer and if monitor is 20-22 inch.If i remember you played SA:MP on crapy pc agp card 800x600 resolution and now you want spend about 700 pounds for Grapics and PSU ??? At this moment all games run maximum 2 core of CPU,4gb ram and 280 gpu.GTA 4 is not some beast future game its just bad ported game from console.Think about it.....

there is nothing wrong in setting up the ultimate pc for future gaming

A boring weekend a while back (before my PSU died), I did an overclocking session purely on extreme air. Here are some pics ;)
Basic airflow:
VERY noisy exhaust fan:
A battalion of fans strapped in:
Current room temperature was around 32C, I achieved 3.5GHz (over the stock 2.8GHz) with a temperature of 27-28C on all 3 cores... not bad.
BUT I WANTED MOAR soooo....
... added this little fella:
... and I stole this fan my mum was using to dry her laundry to achieve moar airflow around the room:
... plus a chilly drink:
With that I was able to achieve 4GHz purely on air: [link] (http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=744793)
woo.
-
how hot was it at 4ghz?
-
39-41C, I couldn't push it further 'cause board cudn't stay stable under very very high voltage lol
-
Haha ezra cool experiment, love you man :D
-
ah, at those temps though i think all your fans were a bit pointless. my cpu is at 60c all the time and it's fine :L
-
that's because you live in alaska :L
-

DOMINATION OF VENTILATORS!!!
THEYRE HERE! AS AN ARMY!!!
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
How much places did you visit for all of the pack ? Or you had most of them in your house ? lol
And nice experiment with best of external fans lol
-
Ventilators are common stuff to have in houses here, as temperatures can rise up to 40C during the afternoon.

I'll buy a fridge bigger than my house instead.

Nah most people use LN2 to break records. Browse XtremeSystems forums they've got lots of extreme stuff going on there. ;)
........................ I do hope to be able to try LN2 one day :D
-
I was talking about your house. 8)
Fridge will suck a pc, but wont cool it enough to break record. :D

What is the coldest average temperature in your country lol.. (and ye I know its spring now.. for so far you guys got spring xD)
-
coldest is 7C in baguio city post-christmas (new year-february)
-
So you sometimes have snow :D? (when temp drops under 4C in night for example)
-
nah baguio city is like the only city in the philippines that is above the clouds, but there is still no snow there, just extreme humidity.
-
Woo above the clouds, we have parts of the land beneath sea level :D

Had some fun with Super Pi last night while I had no internet.

Overclock is fun if you love performance, i like it but i cant do it lol
When you reach high clocks with succes and have some nice viewable impact on your application.Like 3dMark tests. It makes you feel better and happy.
But you must have this inside yourself first.Otherwise it is no use to you.Its just another hobby.

I'm too noob to overclock a pc.

I couldn't go out 'cause there was a typhoon outside at that time, plus I didn't have internet ('cause of the typhoon) so I thought I'd just let my system do some boring crunches. For short, I was bored as fuck.

you don't really need $5000, you can get a decent pc gaming for less than $900.
-
But you have to give it again in about 1.5 year, but you can keep going with this for some years as i think. lol
-
you don't really need $5000, you can get a decent pc gaming for less than $900.
Hard to agree with you, could be you can make 'good' pc for gaming but what kind of games? You can play games on 'some' Pentium 2 also you can run Half Life on Pentium 3 (amazing game at that time),Half Life 2,Far Cry on some 64-bit Athlon-Dual Core Intel but are you sure that 900$ is enough for pure gaming?Don't think soo.Just let you know Windows 7 support DirectX 11-check price of cards with DX11,also minimum 4gb ram is needed for games, some Quad Core processor-I7 HD Monitor...
-
Some people spend a lot of money on PCs for 2 reasons:
1. They want overkill FPS on everything.
2. Because they can.

Your CPU is still enough for SA:MP.Push FSB on 220 and you have 3500+ believe me works much faster then on stock clock also temperature rise 1-3C up so CPU is still cold ;)

-
whats the point of overlockin 4 cores? ???
most of games use still just ONE or TWO cores ( and it is borrrrrring for quads) if u overclock your quad that should gain your FPS on each game. For most games your Quad is worth nothing more than standard Core 2 Duo :P or Athlon X2 (this is sad true )
-
no
Why not overclocking hardware if you are advanced user?
With overclock sometimes you get faster performance on same piece of hardware but you should know how to do that.It is not easy find limit of components.
People killing their processors, video cards and sometime ram memories cause of wrongfully setup their hardware. Its not all put FSB in bios on higher number what you read on some forum-page whose did somebody with similar hardware as you own or messing with clock on video card or what is worst timing on ram memory...
To get good overclock sometime you need few hours sometime few days but most people are too lazy for that.
Very important thing on overclock is temperature. While you overclocking your hardware temperature rise so you should know how to handle that.
If you want get limit of hardware you must have great cooling system or if you are stuck with stock cooling follow temperature don't let hardware fail cause of overheat.
Plenty of components now days have own overheat protector, but still component die if running most of time near that limit.
More about overclock soon
-
If Andy doesn't want to, then leave him. Its his own decision.
-
I know why he doesn't want, cause he killed few components in past ;)
-
lol nope, if want to overclock then i will, i don't have to just because you all say so, and a few extra fps? i don't care, my quad at 2.6ghz is fast enough for me, plays gta iv perfectly fine, sa i get mega fps, and wrong jalicno, i've never broken anything by overclocking, i just like my pc to be nice and cool.
-
hardware failurez?
condolences andy :(
-
wrong
-
What about your video card and "Art Effect"-damaged textures caused overclock
-
that was nothing to do with overclocking, get your facts straight first jalicno

You both are going to make a crisis with each other again...

We want tables *clap clap clap clap clap*

ezra and jalicno dictate what people should and shouldn't do, if i don't feel like overclocking then i won't, they shouldn't start saying shit like i damaged hardware because of overclocking, when i damn well didn't

clock speed isn't everything, you can't say a quad will be as slow as a dual core if you don't overclock your quad, because quads have far higher cache than dual cores
no matter what you do, a quad core will always be faster than a dual core.

Init
(http://i47.tinypic.com/2yx3wrd.jpg)

it's the cpu that locks the multiplier, not the motherboard. what you can (probably) increase though is the speed of the fsb. as you increase the clockrate of the fsb, the clock rate of the cpu wil go up too
-
Ok, cheers I'll have a go.
No FSB settings :( I got ripped off lol

Play sa-mp with:
Playing resolution: 1024x768

Visual FX: Low
Sidenotes:
I play MW2 on medium quality(textures only), no shadows and anti aliasing.

i overclocked my videocard a lil bit (core from 500 to 550, and memory from 300 to 330 - so that's +10%). gained 10-15 fps (comparing to usual 30-35) and less PC lags ofc ^^
playing samp on:
draw distance - max
resolution - 800x600x32
frame limiter - off
antialiasing - off (ofc)
visual FX - low
the shittest thing is that Radeon 9600 doesn't support Shaders version 3 - so that no contemporary games can be played - no Risen, no Fallout 3, no Bioshock, no GTA IV :(
-
for run GTA IV you need change more than video card lol

Visual FX: Low
Average FPS: 50-70
I've also overclocked my GPU, but overclocking this old bitch hasn't really helped to increase fps xD

I was hoping you guys would realise I was kidding. :D
There's no chance you could even find graphics drivers for '95 let alone run SA on it.
The whole joke was that I was attaching £800 worth of the world's most powerful graphics cards to a 12 year old computer. :)

no
I do not know what percentage of windws XP used worldwide is Genuine (ie purchased) and what percentage of it is pirated (copied). I can understand that Microsoft would definitely like to see all the XP users to move to Windows7, but there is a serious financial limitation that prevents the majority of the worlds computer users. Howsoever Microsoft would think that all computers should run on Genuine Microsoft windows, the statistics from my country shows that about 20 percent of the population in India survives on 1 dollor a day, and another 50 percent of the population survivies on 2 dollars a day. And these are not cattle, these are human beings, who may need to send a mail or receive a mail some day and may need to have access to a computer when their children go to school. So what about these guys. Will you consider these guys pirates if they assemble an entry level pc from a local compurter techinician and install a pirated copy of windows XP on it?
They would not even dream of purchasing a licensed copy of windows 7 . As of today the cost of a licensed copy of windows 7 is equivalent to the cost of an assembled low cost PC hardware.

Crucial C300 ( SSD )
-
If it's on your OS boot, is there a big speed difference? I want to get a ssd for the OS :) most likely to be my next upgrade, that or a new gpu :D
-
Yes it is, by the way if you have a really slow or pretty old pc you will get a big performance boost...
I boot my PC in 15-19seconds... ( IF you count from when you press the start button and all programs loaded in Windows )
Also everything else you start up, games, programs will load faster if they're installed on a SSD, example... ingame it will render much faster than it does with a mechanic harddrive....
-
I'm tempted to get an SSD for my C: and use the 2 500GB as storage devices.
Shame SSD's are so damned expensive.

Hi, got this pc for free. It's not new, some parts were changed. But it seems to lag in SA and call of duty MW with medium settings. Could it be that video card is not compatible with Win7 ? I've tried updating drivers. I can't think of anything else, this kind of cpu and 8gb of ram should be enough for samp so as for call of duty. Overall it runs smooth, it's very quiet.
Any ideas ?
-
weak video card pretty much. it's from like 2007
-
The ATI Radeon™ HD 2400 is a feature-rich upgrade from integrated graphics for an immersive experience with DirectX® 10 gaming and HD video.
Spports dx10 but feels like i'm playing with my old ati x600. It shouldn't be like this damn...
-
New HDD + Graphics card would work.
If it doesn't, degrade to windows XP.
-
Windows XP wont help him much, ati 2400 is onboard video card.
In some games your previous x600 is double faster, that is enough to explain how weak video card you have at this moment.
If you not want spend lot cash, buy some used 9600gt or 4850 both cost less than 50 euro,am sure both still can run smooth any game what you play. ;)
-
well, I can talk of experience of a 9800gt (same as 9600gt, or clse enough) I get good fps in GTA SA: 1280 x 1024 x 32, anti aliasing off, low visual FX and can I get 30fps in oneworld and SK and up to 80fps doing something else. Test Drive Unlimited 2: I get 25-40fps with maxed settings.
-
Thanks for the tips! 50 euro or more isn't that much considering what i will be able to play after i get a proper video card. :)
-
then you can finally play dirt 2 i once bought you? :D
-
Oh yea, totally forgot about steam :L
-
heh :L
-
I did some searching and said to myself that i could get more than a 50 euro worth GPU.
Here are my findings so far:

By the way, does it really matter which manufacturer made those GPUs ? The shop from which i'll be buying gpu offers cards made by various manufacturers such as ASUS, sapphire, MSI, Gainward...
I'd be really greatful if you guys could give me some comments on my choises ;)
-
i'd go for the gts 450 but that's just me :D
-
radeon? geforce is much better.
-
i'd go for the gts 450 but that's just me :D
not just you :P
-
The GTS450 is the more powerful over the HD6670. The HD6770 at a great price and more powerful than both.
-
So GTS 450 is the GPU i should buy? And does it make any difference if it's ASUS not NVIDIA ?
-
Yeah you should buy it :P
Btw ASUS is the manufacturer of the GPU, NVIDIA is the manufacturer of the chipset.
So it's an ASUS card with NVIDIA chipset :L
-
i have a 450 and its good, with my setting i get 70+ fps all the time exept in one world and sk where is drops to only 40 or something, mafia 2 on highest around 30-40 fps with everything on highest and 8x aa i think. gta 4 may suprise you with low fps but i think thats just me not playing on the latest patch, mw2 around 30-50 on max
-
Well, I'm not a maximalist so playing on highest settings is not my primary objective. I just want to be able to play something apart from samp and RBR :L
@ dev. When you explained, it's all clear for me now lol. Thanks!
-
Over all + Total $1500 click here (http://www.xfire.com/profile/BannanaVodka/)

Ok, I think this is it: Asus GeForce GTS 450, 1GB DDR3 (128 bit), DVI, HDMI, D-SUB
(http://www.varle.lt/static/images/2011/05/10/67319_395x295_q85.jpg)
It has DDR3 type memory so as my RAM. Is it ok to have same type memory? (sorry, i'm noob at all that virtual memory stuff) Or should I get almost exactly the same card but with GDDR5 type memory?
-
it's not necessary to match graphics memory with your motherboard/RAM's
-
I see. :L Guess it's my final choice, going to order next week.
-
I see. :L Guess it's my final choice, going to order next week.
Hope you get ;) Just make sure its not out of stock :D

Eh everything looks like upside down, where video card and other slots are on right side and PSU.
Plus its amazing to see cooler on video card is on top :o
Definitely weird motherboard standard by Dell ???
-
that looks kinda cool with the fan "looking" at you but then again it's gonna hold dust more :-\
-
Definitely dust plus temperature will increase cause can't see solution where all heat from cpu goes cause is placed on center of case ???
-
Invasion of BlueScreens on my pc of all kinds :-[
-
(http://i.imgur.com/bzFKu.jpg)
I would flip this PC upside down, then flip HDD's and CD/DVD drive
-
The heat from CPU goes out in both dirrections in the middle of pc and there's also one vent in the bottom of the front panel. I don't care about other parts placement, it's not like i'm looking at pc all the time :L
-
OS: w7 ultimate x64
CPU: Intel x9000 2.8ghz
GPU: nvidia 8800GTX 512MB
RAM: 4 gb
not bad for a 100 dollar investment =) replaced both fans, added ram and went from vista to w7. Plus the fasteners for the lid hinge were all broken. That was the pain in the ass part to fix :L

runs on 70-80fps on empty maps with no mods, doesn't drop much below 35fps on sk/oneworlds, with fx very high, aa x3
-
Buy some laptop cooling pad, that Turion X2 can be really heat while you playing 3D games...
-
might be msitaken, but i think i never saw it being above 70C, even when playing crysis2 on medhigh for like 2hours
or the temps might not be accurate?
ill retest tomorrow.
still cooling pad wont hurt ofc.
-
70C wont effect hardware till you are in warranty period but of course when warranty gone after 2 years you can jump into serious problems if motherboard chipset or even video card chip stop respond due overheat.
Probably you have no such experience with laptops hardware, but trust me every year comes new generation of CPU,RAM and other chips what directly cause almost impossible find piece of match hardware what you need for laptop who is no older than 2-3 years...or in best scenario cost like half price of whole laptop ;)
-
btw now when im browsing net i have 46C cpu and 48C vid card, is that normal for idling?
PS:im searching for a cooling pad

65C is average temp, about cooling pad am suggesting you cause of future if you are about to keep that after warranty,if not you are free to even pour with coffe or juice on keyboard :)
About Morpheus video card,Knutico you wont be happy enough with his card cause its model from low end segment.
64 bit video cards never was such friendly with games they are more for office or internet ;)

Hey, now I got another PC (i'm not saying new :D) which I'm using for about a week already. Here're the stats:
It's somewhat better compared to previous one here (http://forum.adrenalinex.co.uk/index.php/topic,728.msg53627.html#msg53627). But I got a problem when I play samp. When I'm releasing button the game acts as if I'm still pressing it. This is more or less acceptable with W, but quite horrible with A or D (pressed while turning). I haven't overclocked it or tweaked it in any way. Please help me to fix this issue :(
-
hah cypher nice russian nick

Nope, I'm using the keyboard from the previous PC and it worked perfectly before switching to new comp.

Yeah, maybe. I only heard about locking the breaks on infernus on a high framerate.
hah cypher nice russian nick
:D
Anyway, I've already fixed it by changing the gta_sa.exe priority from normal to low. Much better now 8)

I never see the point in 2 monitors, yeh it's great for playing a game and using facebook, msn and youtube but still doesn't appeal to me :-\
-
left monitor ima give to mommy, with the old pc
-
oh ok cool, but I still don't know why people bother with 2 monitors, although I suppose it's good for monitoring system processes and hardware temperatures and stuff
-
i personally play games on the 23' and chat on fb on the smaller one, but 2 keyboards is a bitch

Today i was cleaning my GPU, changed paste, and cleaned hole PC.
But performance still same.
My PC is about 15-20 percent slower and i get weird lags sometimes.
I think my CPU is damaged or dying slowly because of high temperatures and over voltage i had before.
This is my 1st ever cpu i was overclocking and playing with for 2 years. (i7 920)

Mine is just as bad, and I can't do a thing about it :( wires just aren't long enough. But great PC you have there.
-
I would replace my case but i hate taking CPU coolers off the CPU. sometimes taking the CPU cooler off the CPU can actually pull the CPU out at the same time along with bending the pins... my biggest fear!

There is plenty of useful programs who easy show you condition of your processor.
To be honest i seriously doubt that your processor is damaged,if any of millions transistor is dead cpu become unstable and start show random errors, most known is BSOD.
Lag in games comes if CPU is overheated or running on high temperature 80C or more which result drop speed on half or more to protect possible burn hardware
-
1000+200 = 1200 :D
cool maths bro
-
I would replace my case but i hate taking CPU coolers off the CPU. sometimes taking the CPU cooler off the CPU can actually pull the CPU out at the same time along with bending the pins... my biggest fear!
Pins are fear no doubt, but if you got intel you wouldn't be scary
(http://www.lostcircuits.com/cpu/amd_phenomii_1100/01.jpg) (http://www.hardware-infos.com/img/tests/klein/core_i7_2.jpg)
-
AMD = Easy CPU cooler installation but a fear of bending pins.
Intel = Harder CPU installation without the fear of bending pins.
If it wasn't so expensive to switch over to Intel I would do it
-
Ye it's sad that AMD didnt changed that since many not skilled customers made their processors dead due broken-bending pins.
If am correct last model what intel relased with pins was pentum 3 more than 10 years ago...
But in both case you should unplug whole motherboard from case to make work safe, cause intel cooler makes huge pressure on 4 point which result huge chance to break motherboard if you use too much strength.
To not make any of you confuse,am talking only about stock models of coolers.
After market models are easy to setup but sometime their price is higher than price of processors ...
-
AMD is too far behind and they never change their designs or anything else
At least Intel are always changing things around with new socket types etc

do you rly need it to be OC'ed @ 4.5?
didnt think so, and w/o proper cooling (and by proper i mean liq) it will burn faster. Is it worth it?
-
my 1090t is clocked at stock 3.2ghz and my wall is 3.8ghz. i never see or feel any difference in fps tbh. just extra heat for nothing
maybe overclocking intel cpus are more noticable

trust you to answer your own question for me.... Ha..
i reckon that it's stable and fine... just hope it won't burn up the whole house when i'm away - if that has ever happened to an overclocked chip... XD

amazing. only problem i ran into was the stock fan that came equipped with the radiator, it ran at full speed 2000rpm constant, i swapped it for a different 120mm with speed control.

@andy: how much does a 50gb ssd cost in UK?
-
(http://i.imgur.com/e5FmZl.jpg) (http://i.imgur.com/e5FmZ.jpg)
Everything works fine, only i have one problem every time i turn my PC on there is annoying one short beep (with red "BOOT_DEVICE_LED" light on, on motherboard) before windows loading screen
Any idea why is that?
-
HDD or SSD not set up correctly it looks like.
-
(http://i.imgur.com/kcRTJ.png)
-
1 short beep means that BIOS self-test was succesfull (according to this (http://www.pchell.com/hardware/beepcodes.shtml))
I got a question - When I'm starting the PC, BIOS detects my installed HDD, then shows me "Detecting IDE drives ..." again for about 40-45 seconds, which is somewhat annoying. How could this issue be fixed?
System:

Disable S-ata controler in bios if you not using any hard drive or CD/DVD on that controler
Also disable Network boot up or how is called on Foxconn motherboards, cause rarely having them in my hands

haha my brother gaved me this, didnt work at all, he spilled coffee over it.
unplugged keyboard and its working but keyboard not working.
But i was able bright back to life some buttons ( W E R T S D F G H J K X C V , ) and some numbers
i try clean it more later in the sink with some washing fluid and i put it on the heater xDDD
-
i don't know where to put this.
i recently bought a headset the Corsair Gaming Audio Series HS1A Analogue Headset, it only lasted a week or so until the left speaker stopped working. as you can imagine i was pissed when that happened because i fell in love with headsets :(
so i made a little mod. headphones inside of a headset.
(http://i.imgur.com/SyACZ.jpg) and it works rather nicely as well as being comfortable.
-
may i ask you why you need the headset except for sound isolation?
-
because my speaker system is very bassy and because i still live at home with my parents for the time being, the bass of my subwoofer vibrates through the floor so they can hear it downstairs
-
i mean why u need broken headset when you have headphones.
-
oh because they aren't very comfortable headphones and they don't stay on my ears. so i use the headset to secure them to my ears (mrgreen)

Only problem is size cause 40-50GB wont fit you long enough, even now full updated Windows 7 is nearly 30GB....

that's why i have a spare 1tb storage drive
i wouldn't even keep an ssd for that long before i upgraded it :L

meh, bought my for aprox same price, but with half-decent video card(HD 5650), slower processor tho (amd turion II 2.4 ghz dualcore)
this makes the laptop good enough to play most new games ( only one i wasnt able to run fluently was BF3)
-
Yeah I decided to go with a better CPU rather than graphics and a nice laptop to look at, if I went with total performance I could have chose Acer but their laptops are quite ugly. This thing plays 1080p YouTube videos and some light gaming just perfect :)
-
mine is quite nice by looks if u ask me
not top of the class, but fingerprints or scratches will never bother me, and it doesn't look cheap like cheap asus does.
and one thing i found out: if you got for better cpu, go for intel. AMD is anything, but fast.
kind of shock me how my grandpa's intel dual core 1.6ghz almost matches my cpu performance(newer one tho), still GPU is much more worthy for gaming.
-
That is quite nice actually. I looked at that one but didn't want to stay with AMD anymore.
/me is now an Intel fanboy
-
acer offers almost same case for intel too, with few trivial changes, never saw any with dedicated video card tho.
not that it matters anymore, hp is better quality anyway.
-
I made sure to go with lifetime warranty too. Most likely won't be able to play the latest games, well apart from indie type games so this will last me a few years for what I want it to do. Glad I sold my PC and went for a laptop. People told me, Andy that's a bad investment to sell something so powerful for something less powerful, not that they understood my reasoning for it :L no need for so much power when you don't use it
-
too bad that even samp will run on like 25fps.
-
getting around 50, sometimes less but it's playable :D
-
ok, then the iHD improved quite a bit.
-
Yeah I was getting 15-20fps on bad company 2 all low settings, playable for me :L
-
Well I haven't done this in a while. Not long recently put this together:
Operating System: Windows 7 x64 Home Premium
CPU : AMD A6-3670k 3.4ghz (4 cores 4 threads)
Ram: 4GB DDR3 Crucial Balistix Elite 1600mhz 8-8-8-23
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-A55m DS2 FM1
Graphics: BenQ G2255 (1920x1080@60Hz) AMD Radeon HD 7850 1000/1314
Hard Drive: 2TB WDC Caviar Green
CPU Cooler: Arctic Freezer Pro 64 (old but still good these days)
Gaming case: CiT Vantage
(http://i.imgur.com/eOqU8Lp.jpg?1)
Quite honestly, this AMD CPU for £70 paired with a good graphics card will play any game maxed out, even Battlefield 3.

How much did you pay? The good thing in your lap is that it has GTX675 instead of mine 660 what is much better.
-
Crom , remember that gtx 675 is a rebrand , yes is a bit faster of yours , but it doesn't use kepler architecture and it overheats a bit more.
However , i really can't understand why using notebook for gaming .

I won't be using it for gaming most of time. And I desired mobility more than upgrading my old PC.

Thought I'd post here instead of starting a new thread.
I'm trying to play movies on my TV by connecting it to my PC. It works, I can see my PC playing on my TV, except when I use VLC, it just shows a blank screen, like when you try to take a screenshot and when you paste it it is just a black screen.
How can I fix that? Do I need a plugin or something for VLC? Thanks.
-
.
-
this is kind of a blind guess, but isn't there an option to configure screen outputs, since you have more than one?
also, did you plug it in your video card or motherboard? try the opposite.
-

There is definitely problem with software what you using, since you have picture on both source TV and monitor.
I am not huge fan of VLC but seems there is overlay problem in settings.
try this
-> Go to Tools->Preferences->Video
-> Remove the tick for "Accelerated video output (Overlay)"
-> Try and play the movie again, you should now see output.
if that still doesn't make success my suggestion is to install BS player or some similar software they are more friendly to now days media files ;)

Price was fair for model what has 17.3 inch display 8 cell battery etc.. it is gamer machine what comes with high end components such as video card or processor plus genuine Windows installed, same as Alienware but slightly lower price than Dell's model

It's in the GPU. The output works fine, just not with VLC.

I just can't decide wheather to go for a i5 3570k, fx 6300, or fx 8320 because I want a HD 7950 and I don't know if my 3670k will hold me back, even a 7870 I am worried about. I know more money should go intro graphics cards but I can't help worry lol. Although I was able to max any game out including crysis, and battlefield 3 at over 40fps with the 3670k CPU part only on a 7850.
My second 7850 died on me, I think it was the shitty brand I had. VTX edition :/ amazing APU though! Been playing a lot of FIFA 13 with it, no AA but max settings at 40fps.
On a budget of £800 but I only want to spend about £300- £350
-
on the one hand, a well balanced system i5 and lower gfx card would be better, as the higher offerings are usually aimed at 1600p/triple setups anyway, and, if you're gpu limited, you can turn the gfx down, but, if you're cpu limited, most likely the game just won't run no matter what (personal experience, when gpu is faster than cpu).
but on the other hand, although the MOAR CORES approach for amd doesn't quite work out yet as their per-core performance is bad, it might change in future as PS4 and most likely XBOX 720 too will have an amd cpu with 8 cores, so developers will finally spend time parallelizing the games, and the crappy ports(read: GTA V) should automatically run well on amd cpu's. Its not that intel will now be slow, it'll still be faster, but probably not that much. it's hard to predict though.
-
Maybe I should get the new 7790, balanced between the 7770 and the 7850 for £120 and an i5.
I really don't know what to do. Been searching for days on what to buy
On the other hand I like how Intel's single threaded performance outperforms AMD's. I don't do much rendering I just use it as a gaming machine
-
from reviews it seems like 7790 is 84% of 7850 performance, so it would be bit like flipping the bottlenecks, still not balanced, although better.
aren't there any cheaper 2500K left around?
-
I could have another look on Ebay.
Any idea how good this is?
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-432-IN&groupid=701&catid=6&subcat=1275
I'm going to by a 7850 2GB card no matter what. I just need a CPU decision now.

-
the ivy is worse choice as its 5% slower and not overclockable, so 2500K is better, but it all comes down to do you trust e-bay.
-
Yeah. Been using Ebay since 2006. never had a problem :D
-
Maybe I should get the new 7790, balanced between the 7770 and the 7850 for £120 and an i5
7770/7790 aren't worth laying in i5 machine...
-
What would you recommend for £350??
-
What you think?
These results arent after playing, just desktop with running steam and web browser.
Sometimes while playing pc getting hot and noise but it depends on games lol

wtf? CPU die -52C ?!

this is probably it

i do own a i5 3550 and a 7770 , no problem so far , i can play everything (almost maxed out) . I have a 20 inch monitor (1600x900) and that's enough for me.
-
I found a nice 2500k for £140 used on Ebay, Couldn't find it cheaper anywhere else. Now I will just get a cheap 7850 and a cheap Intel motherboard and I will be set

avoid VTX3D brand , is litteraly SHIT
pay for more , but go with Sapphire/Gigabyte/Asus/MSI
-
VTX is Powercolor, aka TUL Corporation there is nothing bad with them...For sure they ain't popular as Asus,Saphire or Gigabyte but price is of their cars is often 20% cheaper which is good offer since warranty is exactly same or even longer what gives brands above ;)
Asus,Gigabyte,VTX -3 years warranty
Saphire,MSI,etc -2 years warraty
-
Dear Andrew A,
You sent a payment of £181.13 GBP to Aria Technology Ltd (@aria.co.uk)
:P now to wait for my 2500k to arrive in the mail.

well , they're cheaper just because they use cheaper components ;)
and then good luck with an eventually RMA. ;)
-
;)

I have a questionz0rd:
Is having a bigger RAM effects the game speed?
Depends really
-
lol i remember when i was wondering why cysio is faster than me when he had the same ammount of ram as me
-
lol i remember when i was wondering why cysio is faster than me when he had the same ammount of ram as me
lol we all wondered the same thing on a drag map race :/
-

Why people generalize their opinion about some brand, based on one or two bad review what they read on internet?
I am not defending any brand, but saying in public they are cheaper cause they use cheaper components is ridiculous.
There are strong standards what every brand must follow if they are about to sell video card with ATI's/Nvidia logo.
If they doing opposite they going down in very short period.
Anyway won't go much into details with that,2nd part of message is more interesting...
If even come to RMA why is that big deal?
Do you believe that doesn't happens with brands such as Asus,Sapphire,MSI or others.
Most people suggest Asus as some goddess product with won't let you down, what if tell you in past 10 years since i am working with hardware they got equal of faulty products same as other brands such as MSI which ain't popular much now days or Powercolor.
Just their policy and marketing were done better and you didn't read much of bad reviews cause 0.3% of whole series RMA
-
ok , maybe i've generalized a bit about RMA, but my question is : how come do those little brands sell their cards 20% less than the others? They have for sure to spare on something like PCB , GPU cooler or memory chips.
-
Probably because people aren't buying them, not because of cheap parts but probably due to a not so popular brand
Exactly the same card here

-
ok , maybe i've generalized a bit about RMA, but my question is : how come do those little brands sell their cards 20% less than the others? They have for sure to spare on something like PCB , GPU cooler or memory chips.
because they can't sell it for higher price or no one would buy them.
big brands are in the same position as Apple products or Nike boots for example, while you could argue that they might have better quality, most of the price increase is caused by just brand name.
-
There is nothing about PCB,coolers or memory i would say its total opposite in case with small brands.Quality of their products is equal or sometime even better than quality of 'Big players'
They have no space to gamble with quality of their products,if they are about to make name in Europe or America since 99% of whole hardware comes from Asia.
So only way to make good deal is keep good quality and earn customers with as much as possible lower price which is often 20% cheaper than price of well known brands...

I think my CPU fan died, and now it is very loud
This is fan testing speed before and now
(https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/20689087/screens/PC/CPUfan.png)
Any suggestions what i should do?
-
Fan isn't dead until makes rotation.
In your case probably dust caused disbalance and RPM rise 30% than usual
If you can't stand that noise replace fan with new one or if your PC is still in warranty period go visit shop where you bough PC to let them solve problems.

Both are good, go with what you can afford, the APU graphics are more than what you probably need. I see you as a sa-mp player and a media user, so the APU graphics are more than substancial for your needs. And a quad core CPU to boot, I had the A6-3670k and that thing was amazing

well i hope i can run games like fifa 13 , gta 4* in medium or minimun resolution details without problem
-
Fifa 13 I could run at high settings with about 40fps 1920x1080 but no anti aliasing, gta san andreas 1920x1080 max draw distance but low shadows of course, 100+ fps
-
the new PC should last for 5 years or more ahah , like my current pc have more 5 years 2,2ghz overclocked , gpu ati hd3450 512mb, 1gb ram
thx for infos andy :)
-
Well you can always buy a good graphics card one day in the future, your quad core CPU will last for many more years :)
-
for gpu, if integrata means integrated.... that usually means bad performance
-
It's an APU, it's different to onboard motherboard graphics. APU graphics are the way forward for AMD.
-
for gpu, if integrata means integrated.... that usually means bad performance
it does, but its still like x2 faster than intel integrated solutions (except the ones that are about to be released now).
its to the point where you can run most games with some settings tweaked.

i prefer amd is cheap compared to intel ,maybe aren't perfomance like intel but who cares...

yeah i can upgrade it with 16 gb ram and a good gpu Ati
-
well i thought that with my pc (in sign) i could play GTA IV good. i reach 40 fps so far and it's fuckin' laggy . Scorpion you better buy a discrete graphic card ,otherwise you'll regret it.

He only wants to play Fifa 13 and San Andreas, an APU is more than enough for that

i was the same then ..."hey crysis 3.. let's install it" "ooohh Metro 2033 ,let's have a try" you know how the story goes :D
-
Well, one can expect to have to pay hundreds of pounds/dollars to play those games properly :D. Quad Core CPU with built in AMD graphics for under £100 that can play almost any of the latest games at low/medium settings, maybe some high settings is a pretty darn good way to go :D especially if on a budget

Why only one 8 gb stick of ram? :o
and i hope that the 7700 is GDDR5 , not the shitty DDR3 version.

Because this was all i could afford. lol
EDIT: and that 7750 is from my old pc. lol
-
definitely get another (identical) 8GB stick when you can, single channel can bottleneck quite a bit at times afaik
and what's the cpu?
-
CPU is a i5 4430.
-
prob would have been better to get 2x 4gb sticks for the same price of an 8gb stick and have dual channel ram.

It is 2x 4gb sticks lol

Oh. You can put them in dual channel then, make sure to put them in the same colour ram slots :)

I'm upgrading my PC soon, could you please tell me if my choice is good? My plan is to buy fresh but mid-range stuff and OC it. Already got the computer case (rc-692a-kkn6 black) and planning to fill it with:
CPU = Core i5 4570 = 140 Euro
MB = Asus Z87 plus = 121 Euro
RAM = 4+4Gb Kingston DDR3 = 68 Euro
GPU = Radeon 7850 860Mhz 2Gb = 113 Euro
HDD = 1Tb Seagate ST1000DM003 Barracuda = 42 Euro
PSU = Chieftec GPS-700A8 700W = 38 Euro
Sum = 523 Euro
Will I be able to overclock things via BIOS/UEFI on this motherboard? Cause my current MB doesn't have that feature.
Is 700W enough for today's gaming? (just for comparison - I'm currently on 250W one :D here is my PC (http://forum.adrenalinex.co.uk/index.php/topic,728.msg53627.html#msg53627))
-
you can't overclock the i5 4570, you need one with the K suffix, which costs about $40 premium, unless you just forgot to write it.
apart from that, it might be worth it to check how much does the new R7 270X cost, its almost the same as 7870, but with price cut down a lot, sometimes lower than the 7850.
-
you don't need MB with integrated GPU
-
you don't need MB with integrated GPU
i don't know what you are referring to, but intel stopped integrating GPU's into motherboards 3 generations ago, they are in the cpu now and not really optional.
and the motherboard is quite good
http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Z87PLUS/
-
if you don't plan to overclock , Z series motherboard is way too much , you can stick with a h87 mobo.
you may also consider an SSD disk .

but i second you about the SSD, probably couldn't live without one anymore.
and the last two questions which i somehow missed the first time:
yes, you this MB is OC friendly in UEFI BIOS, however, look at what i said about CPU, and yes, 700W should be enough even with a big overclock.

there's no dedicated gpu at all in there, kind of worthless to play games on celeron built-in gpu
-
Can't find any good reason to suggest someone to buy that kind of PC if he has already one except for office work(MS Word,Excel and so on) you can forget about any proper gaming with that configuration ....
probably your old PC would run smoother Windows than Celeron 540 paired with H61 motherboard
Better save cash what you have than pay 200 euro for something what no one would even call PC
-
my current is pc:
mobo: Abit nf8-v
cpu: amd sempron 2800+(1,6ghz) overcloced at 2,2ghz
gpu: agp Ati hd3450(512mb 8x)
ram: 2x512mb ddr400
yep i forget about gpu:
ASROCK H61M-DGS have hd2000 integrate(max 1.7gb condivise)
-
that gpu would give you about 15fps in gtasa.

Few things.
Put new 60GB SSD in laptop.
Put an extra 2GB of ram and raised it to 6GB
Purchased a VPN and raised my upload speed from 1mb/s to 2mb/s and made my internet a lot safer and faster.
-
What SSD did you use and did it improve performance noticeable?
I have a Sony Vaio laptop and thought about replacing the internal HDD with a SSD, but I have no clue what to buy and if a 150-200 Euro investment into a 4 year old laptop is even worth it.
-
I used a Kingston SV300 and let's just say I could never go back to using a harddrive now :L
-
i did the same on my dad's notebook : it's fuckin fast now :P
the only bad thing is that i had to remove the DVD-R drive (he never used it anyway)
-
when i upgraded my laptop, restart times went from 5:40 to 0:35 :L
anything that loads or launches something is a lot faster, GTA IV loading speed improved like 4-6 times.
often i don't even feel the page/swap file working too much, when my RAM is full(happens a lot, i'm yet to update the 3GB).

lol the clock speed of the RAM doesn't really talk too much except if you're an enthusiast

About single vs dual channel memory:
synthetic benchmarks can sometimes show 30%, even 80% differences between the different configurations... but real-world testing could be 3-5%
-
is better 2GB DDR2 800mhz or 4GB DDR2 667mhz with different memorys? my motherboard not can accept 4gb 800mhz, idk the why, or is cuz the memory are different idk

Larger RAM is bigger, disregard the memory clock speed. It doesn't matter if you install different brands of ram in your slot.
-
It doesn't matter if you install different brands of ram in your slot.
it does matter because then dual channel mode can cause compatibility issues, or more likely - drop both modules to slowest timings/frequency, and by that wasting some of the available performance.
But certainly, biggest module is better than fastest performing one.
and Jalicno is right - the performance boost isn't huge, but it can bottleneck some workloads.
-
I'm using Samsung and Hynix modules, both run at 800mhz in dual channel mode :S

but with the slowest timings.

1000w is still an overkill for a SLI setup, fine for a triple or quad cards. A 850w would be fine for 2 770's.

Since every blu-rays are on max 1080p, it's waste of money to buy this 4K.
-
it's not for movies or games, but mostly for multitasking (if the monitor is big too, though). 4k is like two or three monitors in one without the inconvenience associated with them.
also, the argument of no movies supporting it yet was exactly the same with 1080p before, you may not need it, but don't look down to people who do, by that they are making sure everyone gets it sooner.
-
4K is going to be a mainstream resolution soon. For now I only have 1440x900 (17 inch wide) :L

+1 yeah im playing this shit full of stuttering
-
Also a GPU like the 7970 of AMD... as minimum is like wtf :L That card is like 300+ euro now.
If you want to make zero profit of a game you should put a minimum like that.. because the group you can sell to will be very small.
-
Problem is: Magazines and blogs will rate it good, people will buy it with decent pc's thinking it would be enough, and then the rage begins. I really never looked at the minimum specs of the last games I bought, but after seeing this, I probably should start doing so again.
-
The game itself isn't bad, graphics and possibilities are awesome. It's just the terrible optimalization. For people with extreme gaming pcs, it's worth the buy.

R9 280 is rebranded 7950, which you could overclock to 7970 levels, and i can find it for 170 euros here. Or get R9 280X, which is straight up 7970, for like 220euros. The specs are indeed pretty crazy though...

Does anybody have some suggestions on this? Replacing my old laptop and looking for a semi-silent gaming/working machine.
-
is i7 a must? i'd take an i5, and then you can get pretty much any gpu you find necessary except the very high end, and still be in the same budget.
even if you need an i7, is 3770S one any cheaper? otherwise it doesn't make much sense getting the S edition
as for something comparable to 750Ti, R7 265 is way better for the same price.
the noise levels just don't differ enough, especially with aftermarket coolers
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1130?vs=1127
(noise is in the very bottom)
lastly, why do you need a Z97 mobo, if your cpu isn't even overclockable? H97 is no worse with the exception of SLI/Crossfire and OC.
-
Just to clarify: I have little to no knowledge of pc components, the parts above were chosen by the criteria of "price I would be willing to pay for this" and "reviews that recommend this component". So any suggestions on making this cheaper/better fitting are very welcome.
i7 is not a must, but the i5 should be of "higher range", cause I'm looking for a long lasting system, don't want to upgrade in the next 2-4 years. I've chosen the i7 cause it was recommended in a review, but anything cheaper with slightly lower performance would be totally okay. Any recommendations for a good i5?
I found the AMD gpu's to be cheaper then the Intel, is there any reason in that? I'm not really focused on any of the two, looking for best price-performance ratio and what fits the other components the best.
In regards to the MB, I really have no clue of these, so your suggestions should be just fine for the system, not planning on OC or SLI/Crossfire at all.
-
will you use the PC for highly multi-threaded workloads, that can use all 8 cores easily? i don't know what are you working with, so I can't really say that i7 is useless for you, but for most people it is.
if you don't need to OC, you can get pretty much any cheap motherboard that fits (i.e. right socket and H87), and not worry about it, you probably don't need the additional features. the smaller ones are fine, just check that the feature list has everything you might want.
Nvidia is considered somewhat more premium and had less driver issues, but lately it doesn't really matter, as AMD did a good job fixing theirs, so its mostly just who holds the performance crown, and that is irrevelant for us. AMD's price-performance is usually better indeed.
did you really want to go with such a low end gpu? with an otherwise high-end pc, i'd take way more powerful GPU, but I guess you might not need it.
instead of one 8GB ram stick, get two 4GB ones, as then you can put them in dual channel mode, and they will be faster.
also, cpu coolers are really unnecessary if you do not overclock, unless you find the stock one to be too loud, and even then, the 60euro one is way overboard..
-
The PC is intended for mainly gaming usage, but I want to be able to work on it at home too (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, After Effects), so multi-threading would be a big bonus but not neccessary.
I took the lower graphic card because I already reached my financial limit, which is 1.000 EUR, the build should be under this limit. But I don't know where else I should cut down. My main fear is of creating the monster again I sent to trash before I bought my recent laptop. It was a turbine in a plastic bling-bling case. So silence and quality is really important, at least in regard to cpu cooler and case.
-
you definitely don't need that cooler though, and the stock one isn't terrible either.
if 1000 is the limit, drop down to ~i5-4570 (you probably won't even feel that) and get some decent gpu instead. something like R9 280 is a really good deal nowadays, but with i5 and the cooler cut, but you could even afford something like gtx 970, which could drive 2560x1440 monitor on max settings on almost any game.
do you need it to be silent while gaming too, or then it can become louder?
also, no hdd needed?
-
i5s and i7s are pretty much close when benchmarked.
-
Yeah, I'm thinking of cutting the cooler and maybe upgrade this later (if neccessary). Really want to have "matching" core components (cpu, gpu, ram), so nothing of it creates a bottle neck for performance.
The PC can get louder when gaming, you can't really prevent that anyway. But my comparison is said "turbine" from the old days, so maybe I'm probably just a little too worried about it.
Also, I'll just go with the SSD first, cause I got a 3 TB HDD in an external case already in use, I would transfer it into the PC later.
In regards to the RAM, is there really so much difference with dual channel? I did some research and basically every source I found was like "Meh, not significant, you wont notice".
Edit:
Wohoo! Below 1k!
-
nero , you better have 2x4 GB Ram then 1x8gb .
With only one stick you'll lose the benefit of dual channel.
Edit : and if it fails for some reason you can't use the pc ..
-
the dual channel will give you ~5% performance increase in some applications, which is pretty good considering it doesn't cost anything to get 2x4 instead of 1x8.
-
Hey guys, thanks for all the input, has helped me really a lot. This is the final components list, everything is ordered and I managed to get it just below 1k :L

I have my 8400 GS backup card installed :L
-
Even if card is nearly 10 years old, at least you can install/use Windows 7. Card is more friendly to newer systems due compatibility to DirectX 10 ;)
-
Yes i have Installed Win7 too on my 2nd partition ofc.
I have`nt made a proper samp grip/smoothness test yet but I believe that I don`t gain any performance boost from WinXP
WinXP limit the frames to 93
I think it works better in Win7 with full 100-101 FPS
I will be testing and practicing my turns tomorrow :)
My normal card is Radeon HD5870
Is there anyway i could use this card together?
I mean so i don`t need to swap card everytime i want to play new games like (fallout 4, GTa5) then swap again for samp..
Or could i use this 8800GTS with my Radeon as a secondary card to boost performance little bit for new games?
TY

I7 processor and large 17.3" display easily kill baterry autonomy so soon or later you need charger AKA siting somewhere to charge battery to even use that laptop so point of mobility has gone. Why don't you buy some gaming desktop with way better hardware for less cash and eventually use cell phone/tablet when is needed mobility ;)
-
I get about 3 hours on balanced mode, which is not too bad for me, I never take my laptop from my house. I don't game on my PC anymore either. I like the idea of having everything combined in one package and it being portable if I ever need it to be.

12GB of ram? Is it dual channel?

There is no chance 6GB single chip exist, more like paired 8GB and 4GB

Hey, not Jallicno, but I know stuff as well :L
- RAM - 32GB is absolutely not needed for gaming, so unless you do video rendering or something similar, 16GB will be more than enough. I'd even say 8GB is enough for 99% of the cases as well, but I recently ran into an situation where it wasn't, so I'm upgrading that myself as well at the moment. As X99 is quad channel, in case of 16GB of ram you should get 4 sticks of 4GB, not 2 of 8GB.
- SSD - Get a bigger one - seriously, for such a high end build installing programs and games (which are huge nowadays) in HDD will hurt performance WAY more than anything else. I'd say go for 512 GB, even if it means using a slower SSD and losing 2 cores and some RAM. I have 256GB myself, and really wish I had more.
- GPU - I don't know for how much you are getting your 980, but they are usually not worth it. 980 is only about 20% faster than 970 and costs way more. R9 390X is very similar to 980 in performance and costs considerably less as well. Higher end GPUs affect gaming performance more than the two additional cores, so, depending on your budget, 980 Ti and cheaper CPU and motherboard could also make more sense. Personally, I recently upgraded to 980 Ti, but I got a great deal. It overclocks way past Titan X performance, but that still isn't enough to max out GTA V at 1080p 60fps :L.
- PSU - don't cheap out on it if you don't want to burn your $$$ components.
Pick accordingly to this list: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-2547993/psu-tier-list.html
Calculate watt rating you need here: http://powersupplycalculator.net/ - Mechanical Gaming Keyboard - that's a very personal thing, I got a cougar 700K with brown switches (IMO the best kind), and I love it, but it depends on your requirements. Try to check out different switches at retail stores.
-
Well i still prefer 2x8GB instead of 4x4 even if motherboard support quad channel. Think about upgrade in year or two if you want add more ram for example 16 GB more, you can't add any if all slots are used. Also think about who would pay you good price if you sell 4x4GB ram, most of motherboards nowdays are limited with 2 slots...
Even if you sell 8GB you have 8 more left so you need advertise twice your ram and be lucky to sell both kits, dropping ram in dusty box looks silly for me. And one thing just crossed my mind, often see mothearboards with faulty 4th slot mostly cause of overheating even in warranty period...
-
X99S SLI PLUS has 8 dimm slots, so that's not an issue. And 4GB sticks are dirt cheap (for example, http://www.amazon.com/Crucial-PC4-17000-Unbuffered-288-Pin-CT4G4DFS8213/dp/B00MMLUYPQ), you don't need a set, just same model is preferred.
-
A 4GB stick in here costs less then $20. 8GB only costs like $25-$30
-
Yeah, it does, and so, even getting 32GB wouldn't be very expensive, it's just literally useless for gaming purposes. Pretty much the only things where a non-business user could use more than 16 GB of memory are compilers, video renderers, ram disks and science related computing/simulations, neither of which will probably be needed.

http://www.cpu-world.com/Compare/699/Intel_Core_2_Quad_Q9550S_vs_Intel_Core_i3_i3-6100.html
The only upside of 9550S is more cores, and that's still completely irrevelant because multithreaded performance is lower anyway.
Don't get me wrong, those should be mostly capable to play samp, and if you are statisfied with them, that's great, but when you say you have a new build, but talk about computer components that are 7+ years old, I can't help but think you were ripped off. I see adverts of "new" PCs with core 2 duo and the alike all the time, they are not only very shitty by any modern standards, but don't cost all that much less than they would cost 5 years ago.
-
What I meant by my "new" system is a new computer with older parts. I'm still lucky to get the motherboard brand new for only $5. Core 2 Quad's also worth the money for a guy who wants real four cores without spending too much money. They sell Core 2 Quads in here for like $10-$20.
