What are your opinions on performance mods?

Personally I am not a big fan of modifying GTAV's cars' engines because they ruin the feel of the car, one of the best things about AdrenalineX is that we don't care how fast the car goes: we even race trucks and utility vehicles (whereas everyone starts moaning in GTA:O if you choose anything other than 'Super' or 'Sport'  ::)). We could have some races which allow performance mods, but only a few.

I am a fan of the cosmetic personalisation, and although they do affect handling it would be good to give people a choice of wheels and suspensions:

Suspensions do affect handling but it is a trade-off: a lower car does not roll, but it handles bumps less well.

Wheels do not affect grip or handling, but it has been proven by NODO that off-road tyres jump over kerbs better (so we may want to restrict wheel type at the choice of the author, e.g. "In this race you are only allowed muscle wheels").

As for car choices, I think today's SA:MP AX offers the best balance: everyone racing the same car, or two evenly-matched cars, or SK race. GTA:O is way too restricted in its car choices because although you can choose classes, every class has one or two obvious leaders making all the other cars go to waste.

I think it would be great if we saved preferences to a database so each person can customise their car to their liking. That way you can choose "This is what I want my Banshee to look like when I do a Banshee race" and the game will load that preference for you. Maybe we could have a /garage world where people can go and configure their builds.

can we try to play racing from RGSC? lol

We can try but GTA:O's interface really sucks. I mean it really sucks. Everything is so slow, you spend most of your time sitting in lobbies, lobbies can't be made properly private (you always get random people walking in) and the interface is generally fiddly.

Hopefully they'll overhaul it for PC, but I doubt it very much.

To experience anything even close to AX we will have to wait for a 3rd party multiplayer mod.

Unfortunately I'm not around as much (almost none!) now that I have a full time job, but I would be very happy to help code AdrenalineX for V:MP or MTA:V when the time comes.  :D

@Uitblinker: You can always buy an external USB HDD if you want to have lots of data storage on your laptop at the same time as having a super fast SSD for OS and programs.

My 128GB SSD is only £40 (around €52), and it's a Crucial which is one of the better ones. You don't need the laptop to come with the drive as most good laptops let you change the drive very easily (just one screw to open the flap and swap).

RAM is also cheap to upgrade, so make sure the laptop motherboard can take the extra RAM if needed.

The most important things are the motherboard, CPU, screen and graphics card (if it exists) because these are very difficult to replace, everything else can be changed for little cost and effort. I have replaced a laptop motherboard before...not fun.  :L

In my experience Lenovo are very middle-range. They are better than brands like Gateway and Dell (the cheaper Dells, expensive Dells are very good), but I have found them to be squeaky and plasticky.

I guess it depends a lot on which model you buy, the Lenovo I know was made of cheap plastic and the ASUS I know is made of solid aluminium, which is the opposite of Karlis's experience.

I strongly agree that an SSD is a must-have (even on a PC!), the speed difference is too big to ignore: my PC starts faster than my phone. You could always get a 128GB now, and replace it with a 256GB in a few months when it is much cheaper (and put the old 128GB in your PC to run your OS from).

ASUS and Toshiba have the best finish and build quality from my experience.

Any laptop is good enough if you treat it carefully, all the broken laptops I am aware of are because people have mistreated them in some way (but I guess that's what a portable computer is for, carrying around etc.).

I am glad I got it on PS3 for now, I can't imagine how you PC-only guys must feel.  :(

I can't wait to play AdrenalineX on GTAV...it's only a matter of time before MTA:V or V:MP comes out (GTA:O isn't very good at all when compared to SA:MP).

I would play AX more, but the cars don't feel as fun after having played GTAV.
