now it's on the junkyard... one month ago, one idiot ran into mine (and other four cars) with his truck (he lost control of his truck) in a carpark :( mine was first...
i could kept some parts and already sold them, recovering some of the investiment.
it was a honda crx 1.6 vtec with d16a modded engine...
when i bought it to the owner of the workshop next to it, the engine was still running... :) some photos from when i bought it.
some months later with new paint, nem wheels, and more new stuff it was like that in the first photo. i miss my white beauty  :'(
now, my father let me drive sometimes his honda civic 1.5iLS vtec :)

Hah, starlet, I wish there were Glanza's (Starlet sport version) with LHD driving. But they were only produced RHD.

Still the 323 I drive uses a LOT of gas, it's automatic 3 gears only, about 15L/100KM (unleaded). And when she's cold, she doesn't accelerate, real pain in the ass in winter.

Wow, sounds like you would save a lot of money by buying a newer car: that is way too much petrol (almost as much as an SUV), it must be leaking or something. I get around 6~7 L/KM in my 1.4 C2.

Title: Re: Your car...

3 gears was common system that ages and there is no problems with that.See they still working after 20 years...Its more about engine cause there is very powerful engine 1.6 or 1.8 more than 100hp and when people have no experience with automatic transmission and due huge traffic in french towns easy touch 15L per 100km also if engine is in bad condition due laziness of people to do proper service on 'old' cars...
Everything what you said above about cold start seems that car 'begging' to visit some service.  ;)

I did 540 km for 25€  in my grandpa's Golf mk2 with LPG (autogas)
That is average usage cause LPG-autogas  is cheap,it cost half or price of petrol.
Even my Mazda with nearly 140hp for everyday 'drink' 14L of LPG per 100km and that cost less than 7 euro
Most people in 'east' Europe driving on LPG even me but simple you can't compare experience on LPG and petrol.

Yes, sounds like you need new spark plugs actually Ouzo.
Title: Re: Your car...
Post by: Tommmmmmm on August 18, 2011, 10:01:30 am
spark plugs, oil change, air filter. Also you could try using a cleaner such as this which my dad has used and worked a treat, he gained about 20 mpg (14 l/km) http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_171667_langId_-1_categoryId_165750

since when do you use Euros?

lol he just made the conversion to make it easier to realise for us.

About the 323, well since I'm not the owner and not the only one driving it (just during these holidays I'm the only one) I don't know when were spark plugs changed for the last time, but oil was changed not long ago. About a cleaner, I'm quite sure it has not been used, at least not recently.

Still, I doubt it would have a really lower consumption when driving on the highway at 100+ kph. I didn't pay attention, but I feel like it had less "attention" since a few years ago, after it had an accident (my brother got hit by a blonde driving in the middle of the street from the other way, she wasn't looking at the road) the insurance declared the car was worthless, so my brother just repaired the car to make it drive well, but stopped paying much attention to it.
Title: Re: Your car...
Post by: Tommmmmmm on August 18, 2011, 11:10:31 am
well, LPG is cheaper but uses more because it's more combustible. As for driving on the highway the momentum of the car is keeping it going so the engine isn't working as hard as it would when you are doing like 50-60kph
Title: Re: Your car...
Post by: ... on August 18, 2011, 04:21:04 pm
I thought it's mainly about the gear, since it's only 3 gears, driving 100+ would be quite a high consumption.

And epoxi, you didn't post any pic of your c2 did you? :D

Don't bother forcing yourself to buy under a 1.1: your choices are pretty rubbish, and you don't get much of a saving on insurance anyway.

This is my Citroen C2, it's a 1.4 giving Group 3 (out of 20) so ticks all the boxes (but only has four seats) and despite modifications still has nice low premiums.

I ended up with a French car because I fell in love with it, but from a practical point of view, I'd aim for Japanese cars like the Yaris.

french cars have expensive spare parts

Peugeot-Citroen ("PSA") cars are very popular, so you can easily find cheap parts from scrapyards and eBay. :)

Even then, I have bought new interior parts for my car directly from the Citroen garage and they have been reasonably priced. I think I bought a new trim ring for the gear stick and "CITROEN" logo for the back of the car for £15.

Actually 3rd generation to drive that car, but I think the engine is gonna die in the next 5 years due to excessive use, I do 24 Km uphill weekly and well, the downhill almost doesn't need any engine use. I could say it's in very good shape.

wtf happened with my photo?

Even if I didn't own one, mk2 would be still best looking for me from all punto's.

great cars you say... They may be quite good looking, but talking about mechanics... there is still huge quality gap between fiat and e.g. audi produced at that time. At least all the parts I had to replace were reasonably cheaper.

Uh mate you compare something what isn't possible compare.
Audi have long history and for sure quality whole time that is why prices are higher.
Of course they have total different strategy what car should be,they not trying make unsafe small car and to cost like Fiat Punto 10K euro,
at that time instead of Audi A3 who cost like double...
Fiat never was such quality,it was cheap and good for money what you pay same as VW if you trying compare Fiat with Germans cars and parts

Not to mention the insurance on an Audi costs more than 5x what the Punto's costs (at least in the UK anyway).
Title: Re: Your car...
Post by: Tommmmmmm on September 10, 2011, 11:38:04 am
insurance on my dad's Punto (mk1) jumped from I think £250 last year, to £380 this year, and that's with 70% discount because of his no claims. I'd actually choose a fiat over an audi because of their basic engine and components, not to mention fuel costs  :o

here in PL there is no much difference what car you drive. Insurance cost of the aforementioned vehicles would be similar. All that matters is the age and how many claims one had.

I don't know what's wrong with the insurance companies... I'll be renewing mine in few weeks.
Instead of paying less, I am supposed to pay 70 PLN (~ 15 pounds) more. Last year I paid 550 PLN (~110 GBP). I'm still a young driver, had no claims for almost 5 years. It's kind of annoying. I know how your father feels now.

Haha you are lucky, most young people here with 5 years no-claims get upwards of £500 quotes even on the smallest cars. I have 3 years no claims an I am paying £1,000 per year. I bought my car in 2008, and have already spent more on insurance than the car is worth.  :L

Double post woo.

I just wanted to show off my new head unit.

Sony CDX-GT929U. This isn't my video, but it shows off all the cool functions. When I saw the demo I knew I had to buy it.

[youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VsUMQO6q5J8[/youtube]

USB input (from the back...which I prefer), 3.5mm AUX from front, detailed grayscale display, you can change the colours of the illumination, navigate folders, comes with remote, front/back RCA outputs, separate RCA output with modifiable crossover for subwoofer, very detailed visual equaliser (like Winamp has). The build quality and sound quality is amazing, I have not used a better head unit.

It can do around 185km/h max. I haven't tried it out myself yet. Maybe I'll try in the summer. It has a 1.6 TDCI engine with 80kW. Takes like 8L per 100km at the moment. Mostly driving with it in the city, that's why. 1 extra litre fuel loss is caused by the slippery and snowy roads. Hopefully I can get around 6L per 100km in the summer.

200-205km/h is possible in that car but still every speed over 180 is hard attack on engine cause 1.6 is weak for that chase

I have a question. Sometimes when accelerating, around 2000rpm, the power of the engine goes away for a fraction of a second, making my car wobble for a very short time. What could actually cause such thing? My father suspected that the problem is in the gas pedal system. He took it totally apart and have cleaned it for like 3 times already. The "wobbling" decreased, but not totally gone. It doesn't affect the driving much, but it's still good to know what causes this. We could try to find a solution for this in a Ford agency, but it's gonna cost us some money again.

Maybe the turbo.
Turbo starts working from 2000rpm. (At least strarts from 2000 in my Fiat).
Check it.

Turbine works whole time, but with different rpm makes different pressure which result less or more power for engine  ;)

Post by: [LSR]Jalicno on February 28, 2012, 12:37:46 am
I have a question. Sometimes when accelerating, around 2000rpm, the power of the engine goes away for a fraction of a second, making my car wobble for a very short time. What could actually cause such thing? My father suspected that the problem is in the gas pedal system. He took it totally apart and have cleaned it for like 3 times already. The "wobbling" decreased, but not totally gone. It doesn't affect the driving much, but it's still good to know what causes this. We could try to find a solution for this in a Ford agency, but it's gonna cost us some money again.
When you last time changed gas filter-dirty diesel could affect system which result on low rpm engine doesnt have enough power.
Also its common when customer drive his car on low rpm long period 2000-3000 rpm engine turn lazy,so if you have some highway near you try force bit more engine for example in 4th gear 4000-4500 rpm  for minute or two just to burn all shit what appear in system with cold weather and slow ride.If nothing of this helps you,go in service they will fix your problems.

You should stop learning from wikipedia. :)

Turbo is working perfectly, we checked it the last time at the Ford agency. Worked just like it used to be. Maybe it is the cold weathers that cause this wobbling. I'll wait till the weather gets warmer and then I can easily see if it changes or not.

ok, i will try to take good pictures later , but hard to see coz hood opens infront

this is how engine looks:

and this is the way how it is placed in car:

as you can see, the heaviest parts are placed very low in car, making great weight balance

still looking for these,
this what you see here, is matte layout under them,
needs 2 more on rear doors, but they are hard to get for this model

original rear doors  were both too rusty to restore, near fenders, so was better to buy and put next ones instead, but they got no stripe

sure,
even asked dad to look for these in germany too...

this is really damn rare car and getting parts is hard... at least prices aren't high

for example
been looking for manifold intake since november 2013, week ago found someone who was selling it, this week got installed
part costed like 70 zl (around 14 Ł or 15 €) but getting it here was almost impossible lol

ye i know this one (and few more mostly classic cars hobby/shops),
but damn... shipping these (useless, only decoration) parts from UK would cost me more than actual parts

1st wanna get what is important to be done, so suspension, steering and so on, at least bodywork is restored and so far rust-free
decorations and rest gonna leave for end

meanwhile, not my video, but mine sounds the same, gotta love this boxer roaring, hard to find 1.3 oldie that actually sounds cool in stock

These are my cars. I have placed 300 of them ALL OVER THE CITY, so I can drive whenever the fuck I want. Also, the gas tank fills up like magic, I have to do nothing on it.

Plus: You can change between automatic and semi-automatic gear shifting, so it's all about pedal to the metal  8)

And you got that opinion from where? I like how a lot of people, and mostly men, tend to judge cars before even getting inside of them. Let alone drive them. The smart is a pure city car, it has a fast acceleration, I can make a U-turn in one part on every street and will always find a spot to park. Always.

I live in a really big city, where parking space is expensive and rare. The car sharing makes a lot of sense when you don't need a car daily or just don't have the money to own one.

I've heard something about those cars that some cities offer for a small fee. I heard that what you actually pay for is a key, and if you just find a car parked around you just take it wherever you like if you keep it within the city boundaries, is that true?

HUE HUE FANNEY!

yeh, it's car2go, a car sharing company owned by Smart. They offer cars in a lot of big cities (not only in Germany), you can just enter a free one and drive within the city boundaries and pay by minutes. You enter with an electronic card, inside you find the key and unlock it again with a pin. Pretty simple and useful.

I pay around 5 Euros for a drive from work to home, which is about 20 minutes.

Title: Re: Your car...
Post by: nero on April 14, 2014, 06:18:02 pm
Depends a lot on the time. When it's work traffic a.k.a. rush hour, tram might be faster. Early in the morning or late in the evening, car is faster. But mainly I use it in certain situations, for example if you missed the last tram, or the tram can't drive because of a car blocking the tracks and you have a meeting etc.

It's just nice to have this "backup" besides public transportation, without the downsides of owning a car like maintenance, insurance, gas etc.

Thats a nice idea, but I dont think it could work here, people would find a way to take the security stuff away and steal the car
Title: Re: Your car...
Post by: nero on April 14, 2014, 08:27:48 pm
Don't think it is worth it.

The car can (and is constantly) tracked via mobile phone signal. You need a member card to unlock the car, this unlocking most likely gets logged. Then you need a valid pin to unlock the ignition on a touch screen, which gets logged too. There are a lot things inside the car build for this carsharing usage and there are probably a lot of security measures you still don't know about. Maybe they can lock the car remotely or switch it off. Or other stuff. They danger of being caught is too high of a risk for stealing a quite cheap car. At least in my country.

You get basic insurance from the company, although you have a deterrent fee of 500 euro.

Sound like a good idea for your situation, owning a car outright gets expensive and isn't worth it if you aren't going to use it at least 5 days a week.

I am sure it's far too much effort to steal one of those cars, in the UK even un-tracked civilian cars aren't worth stealing these days unless they are worth a lot of money (to offset the cost and effort of changing the vehicle's identity). If you don't want to change the vehicle's identity you still have to ship them to places like Africa where they will sell for considerably less and you will have to pay for shipping (plus you risk getting caught at the shipping dock too).

The only vehicle thefts I have heard of recently are new luxury cars where the thief threatens the owner with a weapon and takes their keys. The car has to be worth a lot of money considering the risks of such a serious crime.
Title: Re: Your car...
Post by: [MAF]MrHess on April 16, 2014, 02:20:47 am
heh things are so different here, cheap cars get stolen usually to sell them in spare parts or to commit a bigger crime and abandon/switch cars on the run...

Well you can still sell the parts, but are you sure cars are cheaper in Africa? In France it's very common that used cars of low value are bought by people who just export them to African countries (Ivory Coast, Madagascar, Cameroon...). Some friends who only recently came to France from Africa told me many cars can be sold 3 times as much over there.
But it may be nuanced a bit by the difference of price between cars in UK and France too, they're a bit more expensive in France. And I don't know how frequently they check cars when shipped, but I once used the ferry from Dover to France with a car, they didn't check anything, not the driver's licence, not any papers, not even took a quick look if something strange could be in the trunk. Just a piece of ID for the ticket as far as I remember.
Renault Twingo (a small quite shitty and cheap car for those of you who don't know it) was for years the most stolen car in France. I think recently the BMW X6 took it over. So I think it probably can still be worth stealing a cheap car.

But back to the "public" car topic, yeah I think it can be convenient for some people. We have it in some places in France, it's been around for a few years, but I don't know how it works (I think you need to pay for a membership) and I'm not interested in using them. They're a bit ugly but who cares, it's not bad that way because they attract a bit of attention and maybe encourage people to look into that alternative. And I think they're all 4 seats.
Here's a pic:

Title: Re: Your car...
Post by: [MAF]Epoxi on April 16, 2014, 07:03:49 pm
Ugly doesn't matter when the alternative is riding the bus.  :L

You are right, you can still make a little bit of money stripping cars for parts, but even then car parts distribution companies have become so efficient it can be just as cheap (and much faster) to buy new parts. That said, I think a lot of the decline in car crime is to do with the immobiliser, even the cheapest car can't be stolen without the keys (or key-hacking software in the case of BMW!).

VW bus you can't look trough maintenance cause that van/bus/car is way out of cars what you see now days on streets. Its icon of  period what is behind us and for sure parts cost a lot.

People who drive that kind of cars never ask for price cause they not look kilometer of ride trough cash, its about fun and pleasure.

Well, not mine but still worth posting lol. I will work in the airport on holidays and at the moment i have some work there (a few days every week) from school. Today they called me and other guy to move some car to the Terminal parking. We do so when someone pays for the private parking when he is abroad and then wants his car to be as near as possible to the airport after coming back. It was probably the most entertaining 1 km we ever had in a car :L This beast is made by Czech WrapStyle tuning company and if the internet doesn't lie it should have 560 KM lol, sounds like a devil

No offence – but save that money for your next (bigger) car.

A lot of my friends have tuned their first cars with their first earned money. All of them got bored with it mostly because of a small motor, little to no comfort for long trips and regretted the tuning when they tried to sell it.

I agree 100%. Luckily my modded car had already had the money spent on it before I bought it so I was able to enjoy it without spending anything extra. But even then, it was a weak 1.4 which was of questionable build quality and the low ride and big wheels got very tiring after a couple of years.

When I got the car I was so happy I would spend hours just sitting in it or looking at it (anyone who doesn't do this with your first car...you are lying!), and thought I could never let it go. 6 years later I sold it and I didn't miss it at all.

If you have to put some money in the car, spend it on the stereo because good components are quite cheap and can be transferred to your next car.

As requested. The second clip is a little low, might want to turn the volume up. Its a aftermarket exhaust though, a stock one wouldn't sound like that.

ok, if everyone shares engine sounds, time for me:

ignore temperature and fuel gauges, they simply don't work, RPM one shows only half of actual revs too... thats standard in these models. red light is icon of handbrake.

In the UK it is 17, there is no limit for horsepower but insurance is so expensive young people can't afford to run anything with more than 70hp.  :L

For most people insurance for the first year is worth more than the car.

no sense to compare turbo engine vs N/A

only diffrence will be seen after 30-40 years. Turbo one will have cracked block, N/A probably gonna run next 50 years

As Max says. Plus, there is no such thing as a 'simple Supra Twin Turbo,' they are still very rare and expensive cars in any country.

Also, it's not just about speed: I am sure the Chrysler is more comfortable on long journeys and has many features you won't get in some boring 1.1L European hatchback (not to mention is much cooler  8)).
