HP cheaper laptops are crap. Dunno about higher priceranges.
win 7 is better than 8 IMO.

The one Toaster mentioned really caught my eyes. Any comments?

i'd say its pretty good, but there is one big problem with it - screen resolution and GPU combination.
it has a high resolution Full HD screen, but a mediocre video card.
this means that if you want to play any new games you will probably have to drop the resolution down, but that looks bad.
take a look here: http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GT-750M.90245.0.html
scroll down a little there, you can see that the ultra measurements rarely exceed 15fps for new games, which is unplayable.
you could drop the settings down a lot, but i'd guess that it still mostly wouldn't go over 30fps on full hd (if someone has experience with this, correct me please).
but as for GTA, it will probably run well, and give you 100fps on anything but the craziest SKs, and overall internals are good too.

What about this?
Dell Inspiron 15 (3537)

it has better cpu and worse screen (which is actually good for gaming). gpu itself is marginally slower than the GT 750m, but this screen demands less performance.
they are both quite good, so you have to decide what do you need more, full hd resolution and worse looking games (but they can still perform good on smaller resolutions), or worse looking screen but better performing games with normal graphics. i couldn't decide myself without trying them out tbh, do so if you are able to.
