it is the only way to go, and even if there would be no sync problems i'm not certain that it would be allowed.
if it would be allowed, it would have been overused. in "real world street racing", if you ram or block someone you do it carefully, in a way that you won't really get you or opponent wrecked, but here(or in pretty much any game i know) you can't get wrecked that easily.

PS: my previous statement, that technical issues are the only reason for this rule, is not true, as you can see, there are more.
