What headset should I get?
« on: October 18, 2013, 12:44:58 pm »
I've seen a bunch of Logitech, Creative, etc. brands of headsets and don't know what to buy.

I want 3.5mm jack connections and ideally spend less than $50. Good audio quality for music would be nice too. Any you guys have got that you can recommend?

I'm using the Logitech G35 but it cost about £92 / 100€ .
Really good Microphone & Headset quality. But it is with USB... :(

If he's asking ones for less than 50$ why do you recommend him a almost 100 euro headset?

Philips SHP-2000. Cheap headphones with very good sound (in my opinion). But they don't have microphone.

I looked at the Logitech G230, which is $59 and is not USB. It seems like a nice pair. ATM I use a pair of Logitech H390, so I trust their quality.

The Razer Electra headphones look good as well and only $55. Actually I think I'm kinda leaning toward these, but how do the headphones and microphone work when there is only a single jack?

I currently use these >> http://www.giga-tech.eu/162/en/hm6000/gigatech-headphone-hm6000.html

they've lasted about year and a half so far, never had any problems with them. Sound quality is great (for both music and gaming), also has a microphone. Really gaming headset :D

They cost now in Serbia 7.90 € (10.81$), but used to be cheaper when I bought them. Don't let the low price affects you, these are really good ones  O0

you dont know how good the sound quality on cheap headsets is untill you buy a more expensive one, i was very satisfied with the quality of my 10$ logitech headset untill i bought the siberia v2 and realized its 10 times better. price does matter most of the time.

i have philips SHP-2500, definitely one of the lower tier, but it still has like 3x the quality of anything else in this range.
but in the 50$ range, check some of the sennheiser offerings, i've heard they have really good stuff, as you would expect from a professional headset-only brand.

Thanks for the input, unfortunately I can't find a lot of these for sale in Australia.

I was asking before for the Razer Electra headset, how do the headphones and microphone work when there is only a single jack?

if you have mic jack next to the speaker one, i give 99% it's not supported on your case.
if it's in fact not, the speaker part will work without anything or by plugging it in not fully but with like 2mm gap, but mic will not work.
in that case you must buy a splitter (and not a 2$ one, those seriously fuck up sound quality, at least in my experience).

That's so stupid lol. I just don't want to have to switch devices for playback/recording every time I put on my headphones.

I have an external sound card, but I'm not sure if that would support it either. I'll check tomorrow.

Also isn't the splitter the wrong way? Like don't the mic/headphone parts need to be male and the single one female?

there are ones both ways, you need one that is 1x female and 2x male.
