New rules regarding /fpslimit usage
« on: July 09, 2013, 04:04:39 pm »
Hello, after recent controversy about the legitimacy of using /fpslimit continuously to gain advantage over other players instead of using actual driving skill, we decided that some new rules are needed.

What is not allowed?
You are not allowed to change /fpslimit in middle of the race, only in the beginning. It doesn't matter do you use a keybinder, a macro button or keyboard + joystick combo.
  • this applies to /race and /tt modes.
  • changing vehicle while in a SK/MTA race is an exception, and it is allowed to change limit in that moment.

Why it isn't allowed?
  • it doesn't require racing skill, but rather skill about abusing the game engine bugs.
  • for the most of people it is rather uncomfortable to switch to FPS below 30.
  • some videocards and their drivers support fps limit quite badly and makes people lag more than it should.
  • it requires peripherals and/or software that is not owned by everyone.

What is the punishment?
  • for anyone caught doing this his record/time will be deleted.
  • after being caught 3 times all highscores will be reset.
  • if one does set a time which is impossible to set without breaking the rules, we reserve the right to still ban for it, if we're in doubt did one use cheats or this exploit.

For anyone using this exploit, consider revising your tactics!

I think it's clear, don't abuse /fpslimit in the way he says and your highscores will be fine.

need a list, for tt for starters.
obviously we want to clean our server out of these now illegal records, but being realistic we can't just wipe all records he made.
and, provide a list of the records you made like that, too. so you don't look like a hypocrite, you know...

So why delete tt recs then and recs in /race like boat races and such if this rule doesnt apply?

i thought the rules state it clear enough...

also, i edited them so now you're allowed to change it at MTA race switch too.

hehe, ye when last time it happened?

anyway back to topic

why you call it '25 fps bug'?

remember SA is console (PS2) game ported to PC
console games are for 25 fps, and this is how SA was made/supposed to be run
anything diffrent from this value bugs game (increased acceleration, less sliding handling etc) but noone realises that, ya?
it's easier to say that 25 fps is bug, even tho it is how this game is supposed to be, than admit that actual playing at higher frame is?

funny how when ppl were trying to get as high fps as possible, overclocking their video cards to limits, just to get better times at drags were fine, noone pointed it as 'abusing'

in /tt there are only 2 races i did this way, or at least these two i remember: LV Ringroad and SF to LV (but this one can be done at constant 25 without swiching) so not a big deal
in /race probably all is done with constant fps during whole race
for planes/boats/helicopters, doesn't matter, coz always done at constant and none swiches during races

quite honestly no one gives a shit how the game is supposed to be played on ps2, most players can't tolerate low fps and there is reason for it.

they just don't know how it is

playiong at 25 fps is hard, and even i can't tolerate it, but after a while you get used to
it's pretty laggy, no matter on pc or so, and later may record external movie (without using any programs) to slow what you have to wace with

but why would you use 25 fps so others can use 25 fps so everyone feels uncomfortable?
in the name of what? being legit? playing like it was meant to be played decade ago? getting few seconds faster times?
it just doesn't make sense as gaming should be a thing people enjoy to do, not one that makes them seasick.
