Ok.

I have one 1920x1080 22'' widescreen monitor as my main display connected via DVI.

I have also acquired one additional 19'' 1440x900 monitor which I have had to connect using a VGA to HDMI converter adpater because my video card only has one DVI, one HDMI and two mini display ports.

The problem is dual display works, but to view an image on my second monitor I have to downscale my main display (1920x1080) to 1440x900 for it to display.

Is there any way to have my main display as 1920x1080 and second 1440x900? I've spent some time on Google and I'm not really getting anywhere.

You have some display driver from your video card activated? My ATI Card has some driver and some stupid options which could cause the trouble.
