I was thinking about making such a topic lately but as I always forget about things - the idea failed.
mooman did 'fu' thread and it reminded me of this. Not a copy cat but something similiar I'm very interested in.
LOL - an acronym for laughing out loud or laugh out loud, is a common element of Internet slang. It was used historically on Usenet but is now widespread in other forms of computer-mediated communication, and even face-to-face communication. It is one of many initialisms for expressing bodily reactions, in particular laughter, as text, including initialisms for more emphatic expressions of laughter such as LMAO ("laugh(ing) my ass off"), and ROTFL or ROFL ("roll(ing) on the floor laughing"). Other unrelated expansions include the now mostly historical "lots of luck" or "lots of love" used in letter-writing.
I won't get into particular exceptions and more kinds of this word such as "lulz, lolz, lawl" and so on. However, personally I've always been using lol as a word expressing NOT laugh but SURPRISE or SHOCK emotions, or when thing said by someone doesn't make any sense/is weird. I also feel like expressing laugh more often by lmao instead.
(not face-to-face in this case though). For example:
- when you say something funny I will most likely write "lmao" or just "haha"
- when I see your vehicle crashing in an epic way out of nowhere (as a surprising thing) or bumping around I will use "lol"
