A question
« on: November 23, 2011, 07:02:49 pm »
If your computer boots up but your monitor displays "no signal" and the monitor light just flashes. Would it be the motherboard at fault? Reason for this question I may have fried something in my PC from putting a sata cable into my motherboard. Tried two different CPUs, four different GPUs, took all all the ram out, reset cmos, everything powers up, CPU cooler, GPU, PSU, monitor, even the lights on my motherboard work along with my SSD light being on.. Just no boot. So would the wild guess be damaged motherboard?

Something short circuited I then smelt burning afterwards. I have the money to replace the motherboard as well.

Also the power on/off switch no longer works, as well as no flashing lights on the keyboard. I have to power my computer off by the PSU switch.

Tried two different CPUs, four different GPUs

Since I don't have 4 way SLI i wouldn't have been able to fry either of them.

bit strange, i blame smf for that.

anyway about the actual problem, it does sound like a motherboard problem. maybe you discharged some static into the mobo and ruined it. does it beep when you switch it on? (if it usually beeps)

Oh that was just internet explorer being (gayy). Using a netbook atm lol.

Hmm no I have never had that beepy thing connected to my motherboard. I can't seem to find where it is supposed to go.

If you tried already 4 gpu and all things what you count above  i assume on faulty PCI-E slot on motherboard there is nothing left.
Since motheraboad is in warrant, make contact with companty who sold you that hardware to replace with new one.

It was an Asus M4A78. Time for an upgrade anyway! Just hoping my motherboard is at fault or I have to spend more money :(

I would also check with another hard drive and another pc to monitor cable, but yeah seems like a faulty motherboard
I would much rather be hated for what I am than loved for something that I'm not

yeah I tried my SSD and two other HDDs. They would have still booted and gave me an error message so we can rule that out I guess
