( ) First. So 9+3 = 12. This is still between ( ), so you do 2 * 12 = 24. Then 48/24 = 2.

And the wrong way:
48/2 = 24, then * (12) = 288.

You always need to calculate the ( ) first, then / or * and after that + and -. That is why the second answer is wrong imo.

Was gonna vote 288, then reminded myself that you have to open the brackets first. Rule says so.

48/2(9+3) = 48/2*(9+3) = 24*12= 288   

/ * are equal according to priority order

to make 2 it's 48/(2(9+3)) =>  more  ()  to force priority to the invisible * (of 2*(9+3) )
