In the NLs the government wants the students to pay 3000 euro for every year of delay they have... also for people like me, who are studying for several years already and know they are going to end with a year delay..

I don't know much about the other student protests and their reasons, just that they take place at the same time.

What do student protests mean? Are they the expression of a very bad going economy? Students are usually the first to protest, because they are young and wild.

Several reasons. The Government is:

1) Removing the EMA for 16-18 year olds. The EMA is an allowance which gives them £30 a week to continue in school.

2) Raise the maximum amount University's can charge a year from £3k to £6k, and up to £9k under special circumstances (which will affect students over 18). This amount will only need to be paid back once the graduates are earning more than £21k, but the amount per month will be less than it is now. This obviously means though that they will be paying it back for longer. These loans are charged interest.

The main thrust is that the government is pushing the troubles with the banks and all these debts onto this generation of learners, when members of the government all went to university for free. The argument is that this will put off or price students from the working and lower middle classes off going to uni, meaning only the rich will be able to afford to go to Uni.

I don't feel good about what's happening in Europe right now... I really don't feel good with it.

If I need to pay more than I do now I probably can't afford studying. It is the babyboom generation who cost money now.. big money.

kinda expensive here, about $1000 a quarter, 3 subjects
I would much rather be hated for what I am than loved for something that I'm not

In NL yesterday:

http://translate.google.nl/translate?js=n&prev=_t&hl=nl&ie=UTF-8&layout=2&eotf=1&sl=nl&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nu.nl%2Fpolitiek%2F2389968%2Fpolitie-zet-mobiele-eenheid-in-bij-studentenprotest.html&act=url

Hm, I just calculated what my costs will be if this rule will be introduced in NL. It will cost me at least 7000 euro extra next year, maybe even 9000. >>>> I'm bankrupt big time.

Anyway the more I think about it the more angry I get... jezus this is FUCKING RIDICILOUS!!!!!!!!

Students are protesting about a fee rise which won't personally affect them. And to do the protesting they are skipping lectures which the government currently subsidises at a cost of £7,000 per person.

WELL DONE: YOU HAVE PROVED OBVIOUSLY DESERVE A SUBSIDISED EDUCATION, SEEING THAT YOU VALUE IT SO MUCH. /////mega sarcasm
