Undelete
« on: November 10, 2010, 10:44:20 am »
Hey guys I'm looking for a program that undeletes stuff from ur HD.

I haven't lost anything important just looking for some old files i deleted a while back.

I've heard Uneraser is a good program but does it actually give you your files back
or does it give you some crappy file you can't open like other programs I've tried lol.

:)

Recuva has worked for me a few times. Oh and, I'm pretty sure you already know this but just in case: always remember to recover the files to a different drive  ;)

When you delete something all you're doing is telling your hard drive that that space is now free to be used for something else. Actually deleting the files so that they're gone would require overwriting the whole file with 0s which would take very long. The way these undelete programs work is they scan the free space on your drive for files that were "deleted" and if you were to recover to the same drive you might end up overwriting those files.

Woo forbidden. But thanks lol.

One last Q, it's not 100% that you'll get the files back properly? I'd try but I have my last exam tomorrow (should be asleep now too haha bb)

No, it's not 100%. It's random chance that something else has overwritten the thing you are trying to recover.
