Registration system - Email address required [Rejected]
« on: June 01, 2010, 05:05:15 pm »
Hi,

I got an idea for a new registration system. Its purpose is to discourage hacker, and especially ban evaders to come back in the server.

While registering, new players will have to enter their email address. Then they will be sent a verification code in their mailbox, and they copy the code in sa-mp.
If they don't enter their email, they are sent to a Guest World where they are allowed to access the race mod only. They are also spammed with this type of announcement, before a race starts :  "You didn't register your ass, you are playing in the Guest World. Please register, type /register <password> <email address>"

Examples  :

1st case, the player is cool :

AX : Please register, type /register <password> <email address>
Player : bitch!
AX : No seriously, please register, type /register <password> <email address>
Player : /register fuck imatchieter@fuckmail.com
AX : A verification code has been sent to your email address. Please enter it by typeing /verify <email address> <code> . If you didn't receive the code after 1 minute, type /resend <email address> .
Player : /verify 1234
AX : Your account has been created successfully, enjoy your fuck.
Player : thank you !

2nd case, the player just wanna test the server

AX : Please register, type /register <password> <email address>
Player : hey, I just wanna test the server so lick my ass.
*Player is pressed SHIFT, and entered the game.
AX : You didn't register your ass, you are playing in the Guest World. Please register, type /register <password> <email address>
*Player didn't give a fuck to the announcement and started to play. He soon realized that the server rules his ass.
Before a race, when the race infos are displayed, he saw an announcement : " You didn't register your ass, you are playing in the Guest World. Please register, type /register <password> <email address> "
*Player told himself, oh ok, i'll register, this server rules my tiny ass.
Player : /register fuckmybehind gaylord@brownwood.com
AX : A verification code has been sent to your email address. Please enter it by typeing /verify <email address> <code> . If you didn't receive the code after 1 minute, type /resend <email address> .
Player : /verify 1234
AX : Your account has been created successfully, enjoy your fuck.
Player : thank you !

3rd case, the player is a dickhead cheater :

AX : Please register, type /register <password> <email address>
Player : oh fuck
*Player has left the server. (Leaving)

PS: My English is poor so please be indulgent.

Nice defence, but what if Pilong_Ming joins, who doesn't understand a word of english? It's a nice, safe idea. The only problem is turning away players who don't understand english.

Very similar to forcing register, it has the potential to turn away players.

For the reason above, I have no intentions of making the server have a register policy.

What does everyone else think?

If Pilong_Ming plays samp, that means he can read English... Sa-mp website isn't in Chinese. Moreover, email registration systems with verification code are very common on the Internet, even for Chinese are Brazilians users.
I don't think the steps to register are that difficult. I mean, everyone understand "email, code, verification".

And as I said, players can play even they don't register right after joining the server on the first time, because they are sent to the Guest World. If they find the server is cool, they will register. Potential good drivers won't hesitate to register.

lol are you serious? we have loads of people who barely know any english
and sa-mp.com isn't the only place people can get sa-mp. for an example check out http://www.gtabbs.com/thread-1699069-1-1.html
if samp was only available in chinese i'm pretty sure lots of us would be playing anyway despite not knowing a word of it:)
will read and answer your forum PMs when I'm less busy!

Yep, you got it.

Most of cheaters don't care about race records so they won't register.

Good racers will want to register to set race records.
I'm not saying that each player who registers won't be a cheater, but we will get less cheaters in registered players list.

@mooman : well, if they don't speak a word in English, they wouldn't even use the normal /register . And believe me, email address, code, verification, are easy words.

If they manage to enter /register password, they can manage to enter /register password email .  They could be sent an illustrated explanation to finish the registration...

-2

I don't get why you -1 for this reason.

It's the same thing as the current registration system + email verification....

if you don't register right after joining, you are sent to the Guest World.
When you decide to register, the code is sent immediately to your mailbox.

I think, this step will discourage cheaters and ppl who only want to fool around. This is exactly what we need...
Normal and serious players will register.

I think it's a good idea but not what we looking for.. this discourages people to join our server.
As Snoopy said, when I'm forced to register, I leave.. same counts for me.

Thats bad.
It means u dont read server info, rules and things like that.

I think its very good idea, players should give some more info if they want to join, email verification its brilliant, they can also remember the server because they have email massage with server info.
and we also have some contact

As much as i think a forced registration is a good idea, i do also see that anything like that will make players leave so think it is best to leave it as it is.

If people like the server they will eventually register, i did :)

If people hack the racers will help the admins get them and ban them.

It's not a problem.
If you press SHIFT without registering, it's not like you would be stuck like a lost poo on the log screen, because you will be sent to the Guest World.

If you register, you will be sent to the Guest World. Then you are sent the code by email. You /verify code, and you are sent to the normal World, I mean A Class etc...
Well, if typeing a code is annoying for you, we can just put a link in the mail that the player can click on, and he gets automaticaly verified. Then, he can type /login password, and he's sent to the normal World. Otherwise, the next time he joins the server, he will be automaticaly log on his account, like the current system.

As long as a player doesn't verify his email address, we will be sent in the Guest World.

Finally, the player won't waste a second of playing time thanks to the differed registeration system. And if we manage to do the one-click registration system, it will be even better.
Ban evaders will be discourage to come back again because they will join the Guest World where there is nothing to challenge or annoy. He will be lazy enough to create another email address each time he gets banned.

Even a player that doesn't instinctively check his mailbox after /register password email, can create an account easily, because when he checks his mail, for example after having a puff, he will see the verification link and will click on it and automaticaly gets his account created. And the next time he logs on the server, he will log on normally.
Even if he is a chinese player, he will understand /register password email, not that more difficult as /register password. He will get the registration link. And if he doesn't understand the mail, we put do some childish drawings in the mail...

We have to do something against the ban evaders and stupid onlywanttofoolaround players. I think the email verification is the ultimate system.

Instant - Action

JournalistDude: hmm AdrenalineX Racing ? Hmm didnt knew there are racing servers too!!! Lets give a try!

... Connected...

Server: You need to register your account to access all the features in this server otherwise you can still spawn by pressing SHIFt button.

JournalistDude: I want to race ffs! - Player spawns into guest world, with all other random noobs trying out the server.Gets rammed by all newcomers... Gets annoyed - FFS DUDE ALL NOOBS HERE OR WHAT  im offf...

Well many people dont give a fuck about registering.I missed some of your wall long messages Zeek but i got the main idea anyway.

Atm registering isnt a biggy must.Theres still hidden features for unregistered people but making that a big issue would get people bored. As most of people says. Its safe but there is always a balance. To much of something returns back some damage.Need to balance everything...

I guess one hacker wont bother himself to register around for nothing and to get banned.Other two hackers also, maybe five more? If null accounts do something to the server, its something to think about. If not, hackers wont get effected from this rly.

But after all that, idea is nice. lol

(Typo this half-eyed and tired as hell, before goin to bed.Sry for all mispells and stupid words that i used without realizing i fuck up the sentence there)
