Registration system - Email address required [Rejected]
« on: June 01, 2010, 05:05:15 pm »
Hi,

I got an idea for a new registration system. Its purpose is to discourage hacker, and especially ban evaders to come back in the server.

While registering, new players will have to enter their email address. Then they will be sent a verification code in their mailbox, and they copy the code in sa-mp.
If they don't enter their email, they are sent to a Guest World where they are allowed to access the race mod only. They are also spammed with this type of announcement, before a race starts :  "You didn't register your ass, you are playing in the Guest World. Please register, type /register <password> <email address>"

Examples  :

1st case, the player is cool :

AX : Please register, type /register <password> <email address>
Player : bitch!
AX : No seriously, please register, type /register <password> <email address>
Player : /register fuck imatchieter@fuckmail.com
AX : A verification code has been sent to your email address. Please enter it by typeing /verify <email address> <code> . If you didn't receive the code after 1 minute, type /resend <email address> .
Player : /verify 1234
AX : Your account has been created successfully, enjoy your fuck.
Player : thank you !

2nd case, the player just wanna test the server

AX : Please register, type /register <password> <email address>
Player : hey, I just wanna test the server so lick my ass.
*Player is pressed SHIFT, and entered the game.
AX : You didn't register your ass, you are playing in the Guest World. Please register, type /register <password> <email address>
*Player didn't give a fuck to the announcement and started to play. He soon realized that the server rules his ass.
Before a race, when the race infos are displayed, he saw an announcement : " You didn't register your ass, you are playing in the Guest World. Please register, type /register <password> <email address> "
*Player told himself, oh ok, i'll register, this server rules my tiny ass.
Player : /register fuckmybehind gaylord@brownwood.com
AX : A verification code has been sent to your email address. Please enter it by typeing /verify <email address> <code> . If you didn't receive the code after 1 minute, type /resend <email address> .
Player : /verify 1234
AX : Your account has been created successfully, enjoy your fuck.
Player : thank you !

3rd case, the player is a dickhead cheater :

AX : Please register, type /register <password> <email address>
Player : oh fuck
*Player has left the server. (Leaving)

PS: My English is poor so please be indulgent.

Nice defence, but what if Pilong_Ming joins, who doesn't understand a word of english? It's a nice, safe idea. The only problem is turning away players who don't understand english.

Very similar to forcing register, it has the potential to turn away players.

For the reason above, I have no intentions of making the server have a register policy.

What does everyone else think?

If Pilong_Ming plays samp, that means he can read English... Sa-mp website isn't in Chinese. Moreover, email registration systems with verification code are very common on the Internet, even for Chinese are Brazilians users.
I don't think the steps to register are that difficult. I mean, everyone understand "email, code, verification".

And as I said, players can play even they don't register right after joining the server on the first time, because they are sent to the Guest World. If they find the server is cool, they will register. Potential good drivers won't hesitate to register.

lol are you serious? we have loads of people who barely know any english
and sa-mp.com isn't the only place people can get sa-mp. for an example check out http://www.gtabbs.com/thread-1699069-1-1.html
if samp was only available in chinese i'm pretty sure lots of us would be playing anyway despite not knowing a word of it:)
will read and answer your forum PMs when I'm less busy!

Yep, you got it.

Most of cheaters don't care about race records so they won't register.

Good racers will want to register to set race records.
I'm not saying that each player who registers won't be a cheater, but we will get less cheaters in registered players list.

@mooman : well, if they don't speak a word in English, they wouldn't even use the normal /register . And believe me, email address, code, verification, are easy words.

If they manage to enter /register password, they can manage to enter /register password email .  They could be sent an illustrated explanation to finish the registration...

-1 for forced registrations
-2

I don't get why you -1 for this reason.

It's the same thing as the current registration system + email verification....

Yeah, it's annoying when you have to wait for a verification

if you don't register right after joining, you are sent to the Guest World.
When you decide to register, the code is sent immediately to your mailbox.

I think, this step will discourage cheaters and ppl who only want to fool around. This is exactly what we need...
Normal and serious players will register.
